Big Brakes almost complete. DONE!
Here is a couple pictures of my new brakes the fronts are almost complete and the rear have been done for a couple of years. The fronts are porsche 993 turbo calipers and rotors and the rears a ZR1 front calipers and rotors with a wilwood spot caliper for the parking brake.

I goofed and posted in the wrong section. How do I move it to the right area?

Yes, the hubs are stock rotors cut down. This setup gives me about a .100 clearance between the inside of the rotor and the spindle.

I made all of the brackets. I am using the mc from a 87 iroc 4 wheel disc car it has the same bore as the porsche uses and I am using a adjustable prop valve from wilwood to control the rears. I have the hat adapters done now and I will try to post a couple of new pictures tonoght. My wheel studs are supposed to be here tomarrow. Next week the aluminum elbows for my cold air induction will be here so I can get it all welded together and take the car for a spin.

This looks good. I got a quote from a company that does Porsche brakes for almost any car and I had to be picked up off the ground when I heard the price.
Just a couple of quick questions about this setup
1. What diameter are the rotors?
2. What diameter are the ZR1 rotors?
3. How much did the Porsche rotors cost?
4. How much for the calipers and how many pistons?
5 When do we get to hear how well this works?
Thanks for the time

That's awesome man. Those calipers are at least 4 piston, but it sure looks like they could be 6.... Maybe after I try my hand at the C5 swap I'll move the fronts to the rears and slap some Porsche brakes on the front

Porsche rotors are 322 mm = 12.75 in. they cost about $175 and the calipers are about $400 pads are about $150 so about $1300 for all of the porsche parts these calipers are 4 piston. Porsche makes a newer version of this caliper for the 996 turbo same size pads but the calipers are 1 piece and about $500 each. There are only 2 different rotor that work with the 996 calipers. Porsche also makes a couple of smaller calipers for the none turbo cars that you can find used on EBAY pretty cheaper when people upgrade to the turbo calipers. The ZR1 rotor are the same thing as the Baer Track kit 13".

The picture above is a new picture from last night. I machined the rotor adapter Tuesday night and anodized them Weds.

If anyone else wants to try this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2417100448
So you're running smaller brakes in front? I guess since the calipers are 4 piston, and you're running an adjustable proportioning valve, you'll be fine. Maybe I'll try C5 fronts on the rear as well as the front
I better get started on the fronts first though, lol!

1LE are close to the same size front and rear and many other cars are the same front and rear. These fronts are only .125" smaller radially so there is only a small difference in mechanical adavantage. The front have a much larger pad area, the pads are a more aggressive compound, the calipers are stiffer and they have a larger piston area. Some of the C5 vette guys are running 14" rotors in the rear (18" wheels) and 13" in the front (17" wheels). The C5 front calipers use a larger pad and more powerful caliper than the C4 setup.

355,
Thanks for the info. I like the thought of the Porsche brakes but unfortunatley they are beyone my price range at the moment as I'd also have to get bigger wheels as I don't think the stock 87 IROC rims would fit over those monsters.
Thanks for the info on the C5 calipers, that may come in handy.

Yea, sorry 'bout that. I guess I should have explained myself a little better. Even though the front brakes are smaller in diameter by a hair, the overall braking power of the front brakes far supercedes that of the rears.

My longer ARP wheels studs showed up today, I have them installed and I finished the drawing for the caliper mounting bracket last night. Maybe tomorrow I can get them machined and installed. Then as soon as the 3.5" aluminum elbows show up I can finish welding the CAI and take it for a ride.

I take it that the bolt pattern for the Porsche rotors are the same as the stock ones?
Also, can you post some pics of the bracketsspindle mods that you fabricated for these to fit.
Thanks again

The porsche hats have a different bolt pattern so I redrilled them. The "gold" hat adapters serve two purposes. One is to space the wheel out so the inner wheel spokes don't contact the caliper and to make the hats hubcentric. I don't have the caliper brackets finished yet. I modified the spindle the same as the 1le.

I test drove my car with the new brakes tonight and all I can say is WOW! The brakes turned out better than I had expected and the power is incredible. I will try to get new pictures posted in the next couple of days when it is nice outside again.

Do you have dimensions of the rear bracket? Would you mind posting them? I am considering putting the C4 brakes I have on the rear of my car.

I am running the 13" C4 brakes in the rear I thought that you had the 12" ones? I don't think that I saved the drawings but I will look for them I will try and get a couple of pictures from the backside that show the brackets. I am also running the 9-bolt don't know which rear you have

This might also be a good post to keep with the other brake upgrades.

I have been getting alot of emails lately about my porsche brake conversion. I don't have any better pictures than what I have already posted (I should have taken more pics while I was doing teh swap). I have also thought about selling the parts as a kit but it would be too expensive unless around 10 people would go in together. The parts that need to be fabricated are: caliper mounting brackets, redrilling the hats, hat adapter plates, turning down the stock rotor into a hub, and modifying the spindles.
thats totally awesome . You have some real faboricating skills . Im doing the c5 swap and i have all the info and its still not the easiest. I cant imagine how hard it was to do it all yourself.

Got a few questions....
What kind of material did you use for the caliper adapter bracket?
Is the caliper adapter bracket between the caliper and the spindle or is the bracket between the rotor and the caliper mounting ears (or is it a radial mount)?
If the adapter bracket is a flat piece, how thick is it?

The calipers are radial mount and I made the brackets out of 4140 so I will not have any worries about heat stress.
