Anyone try different brands / types of oil to reduce "smokey start-up"?

I have a 85 IROC, 305 TPI, 50,000 actual miles, summer driven only. I change oil every 3000 miles with virtually no consumption between changes. However, mine has the classic 3rd gen era small block "smokey start-up", due to bad valve seals. I recently switched from regular Valvoline oil to Valvoline Max Life, both 10-W-30, in hope of MINIMIZING this condition. I've seen no improvement, but I felt it was worth a shot. Has anyome else out there with this condition tried anything that seemed to help? I know replacing the seals is the ultimate answer, but its possible that with todays improved lubricants ( synthetics, high mileage oils, etc) that there is something out there that could at least IMPROVE, if not cure, this problem. I realize its not damaging anything mechanically, but my ego does not dig it too much . Anyone? Thanks in advance.

when your friends are around start up your car and say, LOK OVER THERE, then after it starts, they can look back.

yeah, with the seal being bad i dont think any kind of oil is going to help you much.

If it was the rings that were bad you could try heavier oils to reduce the oil consumption....

Since its summer you could get away with plain 30W oil. It will reduce the amount of smoke but nothing except valve guide seals will cure the problem. "pray its just the seals"

If the seals are old, dried out, cracked or completely missing then no grade or type of oil will help. It's a mechanical problem that can't be fixed with a band-aid. Pull the valve covers and change the valve seals.

Synthetic supposedly burns clearer. I did smoke less when I made the switch years ago. Also a bottle of Lucas helps out. But like ^^^ said, you'll have to do the work eventually if you want it gone.

LOL... I remember this one time I couldn't find my IROC in a huge parking lot at the mall. Being that I have remote start in alarm, I raise my and up high and press the button to start the car. I could hear it start in the distance, but it wasn't loud enough to guide me.

What actually guided me? The smokey start-up!

Alright, what the heck is Lucas? Is this like STP, or some other treatment?
