TOTW: The proof is in the puddin'. Post your 1/4 mile info and mods.

Welcome to the next installment of the

Topic of the Week
to run from 6/3/2002 to 6/10/2002

No bench racing. Post what has worked what you did to get there. If you don't have TBI 1/4 mile times and E.T., maybe you have some dyno information to share.

Spun a bit
60': 2.418
330': 6.441
1/8m: 9.728
MPH: 75.01
1000': 12.561
1/4m: 14.970
MPH: 94.09

My best 60' is a 2.25 but the car was backfiring after 4.5k (weak valve springs) I have since added poly trans/motor mounts, a new poly torque arm bushing, fixed my exhaust problems, and added new valve springs.

I am hoping for a 2.1 60ft with my stock convertor. When I get it, hopefully I can be in the mid 14's.

Last year: 16.8@81 MPH
Mods at the time: flowmaster 80 and open element
Milage at the time: 121,000

This year: Best '60 2.36
Best 1/8 10.44
1/4 16.24
Best Trap Speed 85.63

Mods I didn't have last year: New plugs/wires/cap/rotor, different open el, hedman shorties+y-pipe, cat replaced by a pipe

Is a 2.36 a pretty good '60 for an auto car with a 2.73 rear and BFG Radial T/As at stock pressure? (235/55/15)

Times in the sig.

Currently doing the LT1 cam, and soon to have a rebuild (beefed up) trans with a 2800 stall.

Then next year the 355 I'm building now goes in!

Did that paxton include larger injectors? Or are you using stock injectors? How well tuned in is your setup?

Stock injectors, but the kit did come with a higher volume fuel pump (unknown gph), and an FMU. So as the boost goes up so does the fuel pressure, at 7lbs of boost I see about 17-18psi of fuel. And I've also done the ultimate TBI mods except the AFPR part, since I have the FMU.

I own a Holley 670TBI, but it doesn't work with the pressurizing plate that goes under the TBI which stops the fuel from being forced out from in between the the TBI and intake, and it also pressurizes the throttle blade shaft. So I'm going to buy a 454 TBI and see if that can be used with my set-up.

I wasn't even aware Paxton had a blower for a TBI! Where did you get it? How much? Do you have a part # from where you got it? Or is it not even offered anymore? Thanks a lot for the help. A blower on TBI is damn cool!!

I know it's not really FAIR, but...

I need to learn how to launch a manual car better; I know I can muster a 2.0 60' on street tires..but...it was my first time down the track with a 'fast' car, and nontheless a stick one...time is in my sig.

My friend with a near stock 2002 pulled a 1.91 on street tires. Are you burning out right? Are you spinning or bogging the car?

actually no its not, it sucks.. .wet flow manifolds arent suited to blow through forced induction. As pressure builds suspended fuel has this tendency to condense. The only saving grace is that youd definately wanna run one non intercooled so the heat can keep it vaporized but then you displace more oxygen and power drops. If you are gonna spend money on a blow through blower, get port injection pretty please so you dont make tbi look worse than it allready does because of poor ets on bad combos. Id only run a roots style blower on TBI mainly cuz they are cheap and its not blow through allthough its sort of a moot point because their efficiency sucks. Cheap power though.

a whipple would also work very well but they are a ripoff

This is what jesse83cfi told me: With these mods he runs a 14.5 @ 3800 (about 13.7 at sea level) oh and this is with Crossfire. So anyone looking for a 13 second 305 tbi recipe should look no further.

83 cfi runs stock 17.0 supposibly at a low altitude
well i live in utah with over 3800 feet above sea level and i am pulling 14.5 at Rocky Mountain Raceway
"slightly" modified.....
hooker headers 1 5/8
cusotm y pipe
high flow cat 3 inch
3 inch exhaust
80 series muffler 3 inch in 2 1/2 out
3.73 richmond gears and new eaton posi
700 r4 with vette servo
trans go shift kit
advanced timing
removed all smog crap
removed a/c compressor and all that stuff
moroso blue max wires
bosch plat 4
kand n filter of course
accel super coil
accel cap and rotor
180 degree stat
stage 2 jet chip
a brand new 305 with 18 k on it
and a 210 degree cam in it with 9.6 compression ratio
thats what i mean when i say slighty modded T/A!

Don't worry Pablo

Pablo is correct, my setup isn't efficient at all. When I bought the kit back in 1999 ($2450, and they no longer make the kit), I didn't know much about modifying cars. All I knew is that superchargers made cars go faster (my thinking at the time LOL). Now since I have it, i'm working with what I have. The 355 I'm building will most likely be N/A, for a little while at least, then it'll be Stealth Ram/Paxton time!

13.25 @105 mph is my best. 1.98 60' is my best launch on real street tires.

See Sig for mods.

BTW, this car is for sale. email me at tkendrick@thecanyons.com for pics and more info.

See my sig for my best.
For reference, I weighed in at a hefty 4400lbs with me in it, so take that into consideration
The launch was on street tires, at street PSI, 3.42 open diff, NO traction problems. Basically nailed it at the green, car squatted and I was off.

0-60MPH in 7.6 secs; with me and my 220# friend in the car and three cases of tools. My car is auto, power windows, power locks and all that bullsh!t (no radio, though)

will measure 1/4 mile after I pass emissions.

No , made a run several times with G-Tech Pro. Straight wide road verified no inclines/declines. I guess cowl induction and porting do help. Time before porting the TB and putting different injectors was 8.9, again on the same place.

Here is what I think made all the difference -- the "ultimated tbi". Notice the ghettoness of the job. My motor skills are not the best (pun?).

I dremelled it some more after this picture was taken and I also set the whole throttle body on fire the next day (not fun, not cool). Notice that I didn't shave those thingies off completely, like the Ultimate series says I should. Some might say this is more restrictive, but I somehow thought that past 50 or so mph when the air enters it will generate a little turbulence but in general force the air down and prevent the air cushion from forming. I looked at the way the air enters when you have a cowl hood and thought this would be better.. I might be wrong but I don't think so. The spacer that came in Borg-Warner rebuild kit is also a little thicker than the stock one.

So, again:

0-60MPH
before: 8.9 secs (w/ 1 leaky injector), suboptimal weight
after: 7.6 secs (different injectors, still GM stock), suboptimal weight
G-Tech Pro'ed several times

Makes me sick. We have pretty similar mods, and I have 3.42 posi, and you are cutting better 60's. I bet you could cut a 2.1 in my car, it's probably the driver .

It was nice to meet you though dude. Are you going to the Fbody cruise? It should be a lot of fun.
