When removing the A/C and installing the delete heater box, the A/C style blower motor and fan will rub against the firewall since the delete box is about an 1/8" shallower. Instead of splicing into the wiring and installing the connector for the non-AC post connector I came up with this install idea. (fig. #1)

Here is how I did it:


1) Find NON-AC blower motor plastic fan

2) Go to WALMART or Home Depot and buy self adhesive foam rubber weather stripping that is can handle high heat. The size you need is 3/4" wide and 1/2" thick.

3) Install non-AC blower fan on the A/C motor.

4) Cut proper length of the weather stripping to make a circle around the opening. Stick onto the the heater box. BE CAREFUL! This stuff is really sticky.

5) Take the screws and find the screw holes and push them through the weather strip.

6) Push down on the motor to compress the stripping and get the screws tight for a leak free seal. (fig. #2)

7) Test the system.

 

Can you buy a non-ac fan from autozone or some place like that? Or do you have to find one at a junkyard?

 

You only need the plastic fan part. I'm not sure if Auto Zone sells them separately.

Basically, if you pull an A/C delete box- MAKE SURE you get the plastic fan piece too. You can toss the actual non-ac motor.

 

so bascically, your doing that to eliminate puting in a non A/C blower motor? How hard can itbe to replace the motor. I bet you any money that the foam will startbreaking apart aftera few monthes when the weather gets to it

 

I had the foam on all summer and no problems. The reason for this is to keep from having to change the weather pack connector of the A/C style motor to the post style connector that the non-a/c motor has.

The weatherstripping in really soft and meant to last a long time. Sunlight is what rots weatherstripping.

 

To add to what he said, if you use the non-AC motor and associated wiring, you end up with 3 blowre speeds versus the 4 speeds because AC cars use a high speed blower relay. Non-AC cars do not use this relay.

 

Ok that sounds better. How about making a spacer ring or something? Anyone have pics of the box not installed yet. all I have to get is the box and fan then right

WOW! I did the SAME EXACT THING as you earlier in 2002 on my 89 Formula 350. I wanted to ditch the A/C system because I have T-roofs for the summer. The system had no charge. I have headers. I wanted alot of access space to do maintenance work like plugs etc. and to make it alot neater in the engine bay.
I heard that the A/C style blower motor worked better than the non A/C style and I wanted to retain all the wiring, vents, controls etc...that were part of the A/C system. Nice job. I thought I was the only one who thought of this. Cool STEVE Z

 

UPDATE: After a year and 7,000 summer miles, the weather seal I applied to the delete box and blower motor is still like new. The stripping has held up well to high under hood heat so far!

 

ok i looked at the link MdFormula350 posted but they didnt have that ac delete box. where else can i get one? i would like a new one if possilbe. how much am i looking at spending?

 

made my own box and used the stock A/C fan. all was needed was a dremal to cut off part of the old box, some sheet metal from home depot, tin snips, and foil tape.

 

works just as good as if i had the a/c box still in there and still got all my controls to everything and looks good with some black gloss paint

 

not bad, not bad. had to cost a hell of a lot less than that delete box too. nice.

 

i tried to modify my A/C box but ended up just fuggin it up and gettin a non A/C box off ebay for about 45 bucks.

i did the same thing formul8 did but now whenever i turn the blower on, it hits something. probably part of the firewall. i put 2 strips, one on top of the other, but still hits.

 

i went and got a non a/c heater box with the blower motor and put it on my car, only thing is it doesnt blow as much as the a/c blower did....so if i use the original blower motor but with the non a/c fan it will work better?

 

I wanted to use the four speed motor and not rewire my car for the three speed motor so my cure to the problem was to make a new a/c delete housing.

wouldnt have been easier to just get the box from a non a/c car and put the motor from the a/c and the fan on from the non a/c?

 

I have a non a/c box from IROCZDAVE and the fan from the non a/c unit will not fit the a/c type blower motor the shaft size is smaller and the way you bolt it on is differant.
For me its very easy to make stuff in my garage at home it has a power feed mill, lathe, mig, tig, plasma cutter. mandrel tube bender, 20" band saw and a 100 ton press.

kool, it is a nice unit.....but formul8!! got it to work, i originally installed the a/c motor in the non a/c box and ya it fits differently and if i recall the fan was to big and touched the firewall, but im sure theres a way to get the non a/c fan on there. ...but ya i like what you made, i wish i had the stuff to make things like that good work
