How many would come to a Meet in Des Moines?

If I were to arrange a meet in Des Moines, how many would attend. I was thinking around June-July. We could do a BBQ or something. I could put up fliers around the City for people to come and look. Any other suggestions are welcome.

What do you think? Would many of you show. If we can get a good amount I think its worth a shot.

I'd do my best to be there. Once I get my paint job done this spring/summer, I'd even be up for a Porky's cruise night (or the North End Diner) on any nice Saturday night. There's also a cruise night on Friday nights at Hardee's on SW 9th and Army Post Rd.

Anyone around here get anything going at MAM road course? I know the local Mustang club runs there as well as at the cart corse in Marshalltown.

Let's hear some more ideas! Hell, I need a paint job. How about a sanding party. Beer and grill provided, LOL!

I'm in. My friend has an 86 IROC and another has an 88 GTA. My other has a fully rebuilt 70 Nova that runs 12's, so I think you can count him in too.

well it sounds like we have some interest in this. I was thinkin maybe we could rent out a lot somwhere. If we get enough interest, everyone can throw in some money for food, drinks, and the moey to rent the lot....unless someone has a big area. I have 2 acres of a backyard, so that would be good, but its 7 miles from des moines...ill have to consult with my dad for permission to drive on the yard.

All other ideas are welcome. i think that this could turn out great if we got a good group of people.

would it be better if this was a one-day thing, or a weekend or what? what part of the summer would this be best for? any other suggestions for where we can hold this at?

We could hold the BBQ during the day on Saturday at Sayloville or Big Creek via one of their rentable shelters (IIRC, it's only like $40 or so to rent a shelter). Then cruise down to Porky's at night fall. That's pretty easy to come up with by passing the hat usually. Maps are available online if everyone agrees.

Any time this summer is good for me as long as it's not the second week in June (Going to VEGAS BABY! ).

I would definitly be in for coming down for a meet. Even though i dont think my car will be completly done, I would still love to bring it down.
As for location, what does everybody think of the Val Air Ballroom? I think it is the first week in June that they hold a Mopar car show there every year. I am planing on going to that show again this year but i really dont know what they charge for renting the space there. They usually have a good turn out there and usually have a General Lee replica there. This is just an idea for a place. If anyone else has an idea it would be great to hear. I think and F-body show would be great.

I would be interested in that. The afternoon BBQ and cruise to Porkey"s sounds good for a agenda.

Is anyone up for a pre-meet?? I always go to the DRAKE RELAYS so maybe meet for burgers, steak, or even go to Knoxville and watch the Outlaws run ?? We could talk over the summer outing and get to know everyone.

how about Saturday June 14th, and if the weather is bad that day, we will postpone to Saturday June 21st?

does this sound OK?

I have been informed that Val-Air ballroom lot is a good place to have it...i'll make some calls and find out pricing and availibility for different lots as well. Any other suggestions for where we can have this?

Those days sound good to me. My car may not be completely done by then but hope to have my new hood, spoiler and exhaust on by then. I hope this all works out so we can have some sort of gathering of F-bodies

Second week in June conflicts with my Vegas vacation as posted above. 21st would work better for me. Val-Air is only a few miles from my house max too...

I am really hoping to make it as well. I need to get my intake fixed and i am too far from home to drive it there to fix it so i have to take it into a shop and get it fixed. I guess it is going to cost me about 300 to get the intake gasket replaced. Once i get this replaced, I can start having some fun with my car. Hope to be there.

Just an FYI...Porky's has changed the schedule for cruise nights. Wednesday/Fridays are going to be car nights, Thursday/Saturday will be bike night. Unless, they have changed since last week. Alot of people wer unhappy with the change. If that is in your plans, you may want to call and double check.

If it's bike night cars aren't even allowed in the lot. That wouldn't even be any fun for a car club get together. I'll see what's up this weekend and voice my opinion to the "Big Pig" if I see him around.

The North End Diner had car nights on Saturdays last year too. Maybe Porkys was loosing to many to that show/cruise and wanted to change nights. IMHO, it was because of the construction in front of Porky that they were a little slower than previous years. Now that the construction is gone, it should pick right back up if they'd only give it a chance. I've been going to Porkys on Saturday nights since I was a kid... even clear back to the original Porky's on SE 30th by the fairgrounds riding in the back seat of my dad's 11 second 62 Ford hardtop.

The current owner has turned into a bigger jack-off than the previous guy. Cars on Fridays? Ain't no way in h3ll he'll pull the crowd from Hardee's; but he knows that. He moved his money making crowd to his bigger(read: longer therefore more sales) day, Saturday. Guess us car guys can thank all the old phuckers from the Monte Carlo Club, Vette Club and the Concrete Losers for screwing it up. Those twits get their early, take up 1/2 the lot, expect free stuff, break out the lawn chairs and plant their phat butts for half the night and spend ZERO money with the guy. Hell, most pack coolers and I've even seen some fixing sandwiches out of the coolers in their trunks.

The bikers on the other hand....DRINK THE FRIGGIN BEER! It's unreal. Plus he can pack way more bikes and people in there than cars. 2 per car vs. 2 per bike. Hhhmmm.

Besides, he, his brother, and his bull-dyke wife ARE bikers. They don't like the car crowd.

yeah, that really sux. Like you said, I don't think he really intends to compete with Hardee's on Friday nights, don't think he cares which is too bad. Maybe Hardee's should add a Sat night car night to their Friday night thing.

Will wait to see what we decide now as to where to head for dinner...Sonic seems to be one of the choices.

Possibly

Tenatively have plans for the weekend of June 20/21, but this is about 50% a done deal. If it falls through, I'm in. You should see what the IFBA has going on. Maybe tie the two together.

Mirthman, i am an 88M, i dunno where i am going for my MOS training cause i am doing split ops as i'm only a junior in highs chool right now but been a member of the guard for 6 months. From what i have been told though i will be attending Ft. Leonardwood in MO. Hope i spelled that right.

What is your MOS? I hear benning is a fun place to go for basic, i haven't heard anything on Fort Gordan for AIT though. Hope you have fun. I think it will be. Later

You guys both in the guard then? I work for Iowa Communication Network/McLeod in the basement of STARC Armory across from Camp Dodge. You could see my '86 T.A. in the north lot any day of the week. We could have our own Johnston area meet it sounds like, LOL!
