LT-1 Dual Fan Install: With Pics

Many of you replied to my post titled Air Dam & Mechanical vs. Electric Fan and were very helpful to me, I decided to install a dual fan/shroud setup off an LT-1 powered F-Body. I finally completed this installation yesterday, it was more challenging than I thought it would be, but I'm happy with the end results, although I haven't road tested the car yet. Here are some pictures of the installation (I'll only post a few here so the dial-uppers don't die, the rest can be found here

Here's the back of the shroud, I had to remove A LOT of material to allow the shroud to fit closely to the radiator and not interfere with the power steering box, etc. I removed extra material that stuck out on the back of the shroud.

This pic is a little blurry, but its point is to show where I had to remove material from the shrouding on the fan itself, you can see the area that I ground down, this was to clear the power steering box

Here's the shroud in place

Here's the upper shroud from my single fan setup, I had to cut quite a bit off of it so that it would clear the higher of the two fans but still function to hold the radiator in place

Here's a pic of the fans installed, viewing from the top

I'll stop there, but there was a clearance issue with one of the power steering hoses, and I was able to bend it out of the way, if you go to the link above there are also pictures of the installed fans from underneath. Anyway, that's it, and let me know what you think!!!!!!!

Thanks, glad you like it, it works quite well too If memory serves me correctly I paid about $80 for it, shipped to me, that included both fans, the shroud, and the wiring pigtails to the fans. I got it off ebay and I think I did all right, considering that just one aftermarket fan would have cost what I paid for the whole setup, and I've been told that the LT-1 fans flow BETTER than any of the aftermarket setups. Anyway, hope this helped, and any more questions/comments, etc. are very much welcome!!

Well, I've driven the car some now, and going down the road it runs about 190-197 (digital guage, reading out of the intake manifold, and I've got a 180 t-stat). Around town the hottest it's gotten was 211, today when it was almost 100 degrees out. It hit 211 as I came to a stoplight, and as I waited for the light I watched the temp drop back down again. In any case I think the dual fans have taken care of my problems w/ overheating Just thought I'd let you all know!

its the shame the pics aren't attached to the board.....

I got a good idea of what mods need to be done.

Yeah I know, but it kinda sucks to find a great thread like this with pics that are no longer hosted. At least I took the time to search for what I needed rather than make another post about it

Sadly, I don't beleive the software or space was available for the board to have pics attached 4 yrs ago.

I made it work, but I need to find another upper single fan V8 radiator mount to get this perfect. What I made today will work, but it won't look pretty.

WaybackMachine to the rescue here. Found this old thread, and these three images were archived at least. Was going to do this swap as well and wanted to see if I could find the pictures. Uploaded to the board, so no third-party hosting.

Nice work finding those pics. Well worth resurrecting an old thread for reasons like this.

Nice! I think it should be noted though that Those are the LT1 fans which have the removeable assemblies. the LS fans are one whole unit. and are a tad bit thinnner but overall more less the same!

Re: LT-1 Dual Fan Install: With Pics

Sorry about the image hosting issues everyone! Looks like I created this thread back when I was in college and they had hosting space I was allowed to use. Obviously I didn’t think ahead about the fact that space would disappear after I graduated

glad you were able to find some of the old pictures at least!!!
