i wanna change my springs!

How?

I pretty much having it figured out how once the cylinder is presurized with air....I got the fitting for my compressor but I dont know how to start....Ive read some of the searches and most say to just start pumping air in and just leave the cmpressor going.....

I dont know how to get the cylinder ready to be pressurized, I changed the CAM and my rockers are off, push rods off, timing chain off, ....how do I get the cylinder I want to remove springs to TDC?

I hope you guys understand what I trying to ask......
Im learning, I swear!

OK! Gee you guys have been alot of help...

anyways, If I turn the crank and put my finger over the spark plug hole I can feel it sucking in air and then it blows air out....at what point is that cylinder at TDC......when it blows air out?

So if I turn my crank (put the old crank gear back on) til the DOT's at the top, that should put #1 at TDC, right? cause when I do that I can feel the air coming out. SO is that when I need to fill with air or do I even need to do that? would the piston hold the valves in place? seeing they should be all the way up?

I dont know guys, In trying here, help me out......

stuff a bunch of rope in though teh spark plug hole ont eh cylinder with the intake and exaust valves you want to work on and manually turn the engine over untill it compesses the rope in the cyl. do this for each set of valves. That will keep the valves from falling into the cyl.

Everyone i know uses rope to hold the valves in place but all the valves will be closed w/o the rocker arms or pushrods in place so you wont loose air through the valves.

it really doesn't have to be at TDC, the air will push the piston down. just connect the air and leave it on. use the valve spring compresser to remove the springs.

What ede said. With the rockers all removed all the valves are closed all the time, so you don't have to have the engine in any particular position for it to hold pressure and keep the valves up.

When you put it back together line up the dot on the crank gear at exactly 12 o'clock and the dot on the cam gear at exactly 6 o'clock. Make absolutely certain they are both lined up and at exactly these positions or you could easily get it off by one tooth (and it won't run well at all).

With the dots lined up like this you will be at TDC, compression stroke on NUMBER 6 CYLINDER- NOT NUMBER 1. Just remember this when you drop the distributor back in- you'll want the rotor pointing at the #6 terminal, not the #1 or your distributor will be "off" by 180* and the engine won't run.
