Gas Tanks

I took the gas tank out of my car to replace the fuel pump (i thought) and found that the sending unit was actually the problem. It had rusted into about 5 pieces and I had to get a new one. The fuel pump will also be replaced, but the problem I have is the inside of the tank is rusted too, the neck seems to have a bend in it from when we took the tank out of the car, and I'm not altogether sure that sealers can be trusted in a fuel tank. So what I want to do, even though it's costly, is get a new tank. Does anyone know where I can find a tank for less than $200? I would even take a used one if it's VERY clean.

ive heard that the 4th gen tanks fit into our car and since they are plastic, they don't rust. i would look into that so you can find a good one at a junk yard for cheap.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the LS-1 F-body gas tanks are plastic and they hold 1.5 more gallons. I will be doing this conversion soon myself. Plastic f-body tanks can be had for under $200 at local junkyards.

I've heard, but have not confirmed, that the plastic tank only weighs 10 lbs less than the 3rd gen tank. The stock tank is fairly light from what I remember.

OK, so they don't have my exact tank...I'll be ordering it instead (looks like) so I didn't get to ask anything about weight difference or even if the plastic fits the third gen.....oh well.

The 4th gen plastic tanks will work in a 4th gen but the filler necks
are different lengths. I was considering one insted of a fuel cell in my Iroc.

I'm sorry (brain fart). The 4th gen tanks will go rite in a 3rd gen car but I think the 4th gen tanks have a shorter filler neck.Which can be lengthend by cutting and adding hose.

Dont forget that the 99 and up LS1's use a returnless system, so I think they only have one fuel line from the tank. 98 has a return line if Im not mistaken.

The 99 and up LS1's also have there fuel pressure regulators in the tank too.

the 1998 on up tanks are plastic but they are also fuel on demand and wont work you will have to use a 93 to 97 tank and get a good fuel pressure regulator they run higher fuel pressure then you will need

You mean use the third gen sender assembly in the 4th gen plastic tank? Dont know, as long as the o-ring and lock ring assembly are the same on the 4th gen tank.
