How 305 stroker
What do I need part wise to stroke a 305, also what needs to be done to the engine.
I heard you can make it into a 337.
The engine is a moded LG4

You can get 344cid out of a 305 (.060 over) by using a crankshaft out of the new chevy 383, a set of 400cid rods, and shaving .025 to .050 off the crown of the stock 305 (.060 over) pistons.
If you use a 400 crank, the main journals on the 400 crank will have to be turned down to fit the smaller 305 mains, and you can use a 400 rod without shaving the pistons. A .060 over 305 with a 400 crank will be 339.5cid.
The only reason I personaly would build a 305 stroker was if I absolutely wanted an all numbers matching, all original parts, resored car with more power than stock. If you are going to build one, even with stock pistons, the comp ratio will be high 9's. I would also use the stock L-69 intake valves, they are 1.84 inches. I have heard more than not that going any larger of a valve will shroud the intake valve with the cylinder wall and you will not benifit from the increased size of the valve. I don't know this for sure but you would want to investigate it for yourself before you invest in parts.
If you are not concerned with numbers matching, and just want more power, build a 350. It'll be cheaper.

Go to Enginekits.com They make a 335 stroker kit for a 305..they were in hot rod magazine becuz they installed one on a 3rd gen 305...they say u gain bout 110hp from this

Please stop posting this misinformation and gross distortion of the facts about that article. It is an outright lie.
What they really did was build a motor with heads, cam, carb, exhaust, etc.; and oh by the way, this expensive stroker kit that costs 4 times as much as a "bore kit"; and got 110 HP more out of it all than the original 145 HP from the stock LG4. They [d]did not[/i] take a motor, and measure its output, and then change the crank and pistons but nothing else, and re-measure it. So that 110 HP is only due in a very small part to the "stroker kit".
It's not cost effective. If the only kind of SBC block in the world was a 305 block, then this is what you'd have to do for an upgrade; but, since the single most common SBC motor just happens to be the "bore kit" for a 305 (namely, a 350 block), and since you can buy an entire 350 at the junkyard for $150 or less, this "stroker kit" for a 305 is a waste of money. You spend 4 times as much and get about half the results, compared to buying a 350 block.

first off, this is EXTREMELY not cost effective.......
the 350 and 305 share the same crank journal sizes.... so a "383" stroker crank will fit into a 305... giving the 305 a longer stroke.
you still wont make crap for power.

Oh yea by the way RB83L69, please stop using the term "bore kit", I am sure it confuses the crap out of the newbies. (I know it's a 350, 305 and 350 have same stroke just 350 has larger bore).
