**LOOK** 12 sec TBI inside!
**LOOK** 12 sec TBI inside!
I mostly hang out at the Crossfire Forum, but often also drop by here to poach TBI info or quiz the tuning gurus with a 7747 issue.
Last night I gave my new 383 Crossfire motor a squirt down the 1/4.
It ran 12.81 @ 106.71 also 12.82 @ 106.81 and one slower run with a bit more wheelspin, but ran over 107mph.
60's in the 1.850 range.
So I just wanted to thank the 7747 gods here, mostly Grumpy and RBob and let the TBI guys know that it can be done, pretty easily with the right parts.
Slips and videos available.
Basic summary of mods is :
84 Vette
383 (actually not quite, its only .020 over)
AFR195's
X-Ram, 2" TBI's, 90lb injectors
216/220 112 510/510 hyd roller
2800rpm 700r4
3.07 rear

Heck, make that impressive.
OK, very impressive!........
Thanks Grumpy. I'm guessing you are not the easiest guy to impress, so that really means something ;-)
I still have a SY-1 here to try in place of the X-Ram, so that should be intersting huh!

Tyres are 255/50-16 Falkens. I am not really happy with them on the street, but they hooked up pretty good on the track last night.

Nice job with those tires.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but 2.02 is the best I can muster with my car on 245/50-16 tread. You're .17 faster and with an IRS... but lower rear gears... hmm...
I bet that 3.06 first, smallish dia tires, and 3.73 final gears aren't giving me as much feedback in wheel spin. Note to self and all that are reading... maybe you CAN have too much gearing.
I'm with you 100% about heads being the most impotant part of an engine. No offence to the TBI board but seeing as the L03's had such terrible heads, it's no wonder why people see TBI as "non-performance."
Do you have any pictures of your engine bay, if so, could you post em.

I have some pics of the engine on the stand a few weeks ago, but haven't snapped any of it sitting in the car as yet..

VERY impressive times! And on a Crossfire! Gee, the L03 guys are impressed because it's a wet-flow system, but I'm impressed because it's a system that is considered infereior to the standard TBI by many (I think mu opinion of the CFI can be changed pretty easily now!)
That is also a very impressive looking engine! Glad to know that it's in the car, tearing up asphalt now, and not just sitting pretty on a stand!

FWIW Ben73 is using an XRam intake manifold. The XRam is a Crossfire replacement consisting of a flat plenum adapter bolted to the top of a Weiand manifold. You can see this by looking at his engine pictures (if you know what a Crossfire intake looks like, that is, and if you look under the Ycar magnesium air cleaner cover).
So he's not using the factory Crossfire intake manifold, so that fixes one of the airflow restrictions. He's also still using dual Crossfire single-bore TBI units, albeit machined out to 2" diam, which is larger than the stock 1 and 11/16 diam size. So the overbore on the TBIs solves another impediment to big airflow.
Finally -- his engine still is a bonafide wet-flow TBI, just tweaked to make more power. He actually provides all these details in his sig, but no one seemed to notice. If you look at his timeslip, he's running on-par with a stock LS1 F/Y car, even with his car's non-optimal gearing. So that means his engine is making at least 350 fwhp and 400 fw ftlbs. And there may be more to come with tuning.

That aircleaner is nice. I had no idea that the Y cars came with an aircleaner that looks that good. I've seen the Camaro ones and they are bland.

IMO, he has 400 hp easy. NICE JOB!

wow, thats smokin fast
A q for you
What made you stick with the two 1 barrel tbi units as opposed to just slapping a two barrel 2" unit on top of a single plane?
again, great job
I really wish I could get tbi running on my engine again and get it running as good as you have your combo running.

I wanted it to appear original at a glance.. Obviously anyone who knows what they are looking at will spot numerous differences if they have a good peek, but with the stock air cleaner and valve covers in place it looks pretty original.
Speed wasn't the highest priority, otherwise I would have ditched the Crossfire altogether. Its a small block chevy, if you can get the air and fuel into it, it will make power. The poor old Crossfire cops a bit of mud-slinging, but it can be made to work ok ;-)

I stand by what I said, regardless of some "Freak" LS1's, I think he's damn near 400 hp.
