compatible parts from 305 TPI to 350
Actually I was thinking of installing a brand new 350 ci engine block and was wondering what parts are compatible from the 305 TPI system onto the 350 block? The TPI system is off of an '86 Camaro that had a 305 TPI block of which I purchased off of Ebay. I believe the intake manifold that I have is from the earlier style heads and that is great because the 350 block that I am purchasing has that same bolt pattern (meaning the bolts on the valve cover are on the outsides). I am aware that the factory 350 came with the stock 22lb injectors and the 305 came with the 19lb injectors. I just want to make the conversion simple that way I don't have to buy more parts just to replace some that I already have, understand..? And to confirm that equipment being used is correct.
Anyway here is the link of the engine I plan to buy: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=NAL-10067353
(notice the bolt pattern on the outside of the valve cover from the GM Goodwrench long block engine)
Thanks
Mark

ull need the 22 pound injectors and the 350 chip... it will run with your 305 set up but run poorly and also if u have any type of a radical cam u will have to burn a custom prom.... ill be doing the same thing soon also i also have an 86 and i like the fact that my valve covers bolt up on the out side because a chrome dress up kit is a **** load cheaper for those types of heads.

What do you mean by this statement "it will run with your 305 set up but run poorly"? What will run poorly and because of what? Since the ecm came off of a 305 am I able to reuse the ecm with the 350 block? If I can, I have to get a 350 chip or a custom prom if I upgrade the cam right? I believe the engine on that link the cam isn't too extreme its stock so that means just the 350 chip. I need to get that 350 block and a 5 speed tranny. So far I think I have everything needed for the TPI conversion: the TPI system, edelbrock tes headers, k&n filters, 255 lph electric fuel pump, holley afpr, and air foil. By the way will edelbrock tes headers match up or fit on the 350 block if the headers came off a 305?
Thanks for your reply z28monster : )

trying to make some sense
Could anyone clarify z28monster's statement by what he just said? Do I need to get a new 350 computer (ecm) or get a 350 prom chip if I already have a 305 tpi computer off an 86 to work with a 350 engine that I plan on installing.
Hope that makes any sense

Just the new PROM, the ECM's are identical. The big change between the 305 and 350 proms are in the timing tables. 350's run way more timing advance that the 305. The flow rating of the injectors is also different between the two PROMS. So even if you ran the 22lb injectors with the 305 ECM, the ecm still thinks you are running the 19lb ones. You'd run pig rich.
So, if you have the 305 ECM already just go to the parts department at the local dealership, and request a PROM for a 1987 Z28, vin code 8, 350 TPI. New I think they are about $70. You could also go to the boneyard and dig for one, or do like I and many other enthusuasts are doing and burn your own chips.
You can get all the equipment for $200+/-, and you can get your engine running perfect.
Oh, you'll need a new knock sensor as well. The 305 one is tuned to a different freq. range than the 350 one.

t5 tranny
Okay with this engine I plan on adding a T-5 World Class Transmission. But what I have found out reading some of the topics on the borg warner tranny is that the T5 trannsmission is "weak" or "not reliable" when backed behind a 350 engine like mine. Will I run into some concerns when doing this kind of 350 swap with a T5 tranny? Here is the link to that post : https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ht=borg+warner
And by the way, am I able to reuse any parts (bellhousing, driveshaft, yoke, rear end) from my 82 Z28 with a 4 speed manual tranny? If not, what will I need? I was told by my friend that I would have to measure the driveshaft from the tranny to the rear end to get the specs on ordering a new driveshaft. Are there any specs on the lengths lying around where the similar swap that I am doing are? I mean the measurement on the driveshaft are the same for all camaro 3rd gens, right?

You can use all the tranny parts from the '82 (assuming it was a V8 engine). If you go with a T5, you'll need different crossmember, torque arm, and driveshaft. All 3rd gen driveshafts were the same length from '84-up, but not '82 & '83.
blinky, note the engine he's planning on using. '86-earlier intake pattern, 2-piece rear main seal.
The MAF TPI was pretty accomodating to displacement changes. PROM tuning won't be necessary, but will help you get the most out of the engine. The 19 lb injectors would even work as long as you used an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. You should use a 350 knock sensor & module, though.
In all honesty, that crate engine is pretty lame (intended for trucks, vans, boat-like passenger cars, etc.). I have one in my full size van, used to pull a horse trailer. It's fine in that application, but don't expect barn-burning performance out of it (not much better than the "better" LB9's, in fact).
