GTA Ram Air Hood Question....Air Box hookup ??....

Hey Guys, I purchased a Ram Air Hood for my 1989 GTA from RAMAIRHOOD.COM I purchased the hood with the Ram Air box & K&N filter. The hood fits great, and looks great. I can't get the ram air hooked up? How can I do this? I followed the directions that came with the ram air box, but it doesn't make sense. The bottom line is the only problem I am having is I need a real short piece to go from the oval part of the throttle body to the mass air flow sensor. Ramairhood.com told me to purchase a flex-duct from a late model camaro, but it is to long, and I can't cram it small enough to wedge between the throttle body and the mass air flow sensor. What I need is a piece from the oval throttle and it needs to immediatly reduce to fit over the round Mass sensor. I know this sounds confusing, but if anyone else out there has this hood on there car, they would know what I am talking about. Please help. I have had this hood on my car about 9 months, and still haven't been able to get this ramair box to work. Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

If u look at the pictures it looks like they use a longer version of the factory boot. Something u else u might try doing is looking around a hardware store and seeing if they have anything that might work. Here are the pictures im talking about

ill help ya out bud, what you have to do is cut the boot up , the part that goes on the throttle body gets cut short on that side and you also have to cut some plastic on the ram air box .

First of all, NICE RIDES GUYS! Thanks for the info. The pictures that are on Ramairhoods sight that are posted above don't have a mass air flow sensor. That must be a speed density set up. I have cut the ram air box way back, but it is crazy. It is like I have no room between the throttle body and the maf?! I can't cut any more off the neck of the box, and the Camaro boot I bought I cut it the most I could. The problem is that the damn boot isn't real flexible. It wont squeeze up enough. It is not rubber it is like a rubbery plastic. The pictures you guys sent look just like the boot I bought, and it looks like it fits with plenty of room on your cars. I do not know why I am having such a problem with this. I mean I am pretty mechanically inclined. I would post pictures of what I am talking about, but I do not know how, and I destroyed the camaro boot. I cut the thing too much now.

Thanks Bros

Mike

another member has that box with a maf and he moved the mounting point of the box forward so that the screws that hold the box to the radiator shroud are inside the box.
I've got the same setup, but haven't gotten around to buying the short camaro boot.

Thanks man. I gotta figure this S**T out! LOL I could probably move the box forward a little as long as it doesn't interfere with the way the hood closes. I still need to buy another boot now. I might try to trim the box a little bit more, trim the new boot, and try and wedge it together. I wonder why no one else has had this problem. Later dude

i dont understand what the prob is. just use the boot like i have , it was stock for my 85 trans am , i cut a few of the rings off and that side goes to the tb and the other end is stock , and that has a hose clamp around it and the maf sensor and then the air box it trimmed back a bunch . what do you need pics of , im gonna go take some close ones for you right now.

Hey Bro, Thanks For The Pics! Those close ups help alot. You don't have it clamped to the throttle body? Is it just a good snug fit. Also how do you have your maf into the box without a clamp. You don't leak any air? It looks great man. Your boot also looks like it is a little more flexible than the one I have, so I am sure that helps also. Thanks Bro! Hey did you notice any power difference with the ram air verse the stock choking set up?

i didnt notice any diff because i did it in the winter and then drove it months later, it does sound cool when your infront of the car cause it really sucks .I dont need clamp to hold it , it fits together so tight its perfect . And i didnt notice any air leaks , if you cared you could prolly put some rtv on and let it dry and put it all together but its good enough .

Thanks Bro, one last question, what is the best way for me to extend the maf wires? Should I just use regular butt connectors with a little bit of liquid electrical tape around them to keep them safe from moisture and then put them in the black wire casing? Thanks again for the pictures and help! Hey how do I put a picture of my car in my sig like you have?

i didnt have to make the wire longer, i just pulled it out of the loom , its right there the length you need. So you dont have to do anythig like cut and splice. Just instead of the wire coming like where the evap thing for the gas tank is the maf now goes up my the throttle body . So dont cut wres or anything , just track down the maf wire and pull it out of the factory loom and i just got loom from a friend who fixes salvaged saturns , so he gave me the extra stuff. As for the pic , you have to have the image uploaded to some website , say cardmain or whatever , and then you copy and paste the link into your properties and then your done ,
