July "Monthly Meet"--Location??? Need To Decide!

I realize tha much of the following post is what I already posted in another thread, but so much of it applies, I did not see any reason to retype the same thing again.

We have only had one since we got the monthlys "organized". There was a few attempts with very limited turnout, but by doing some discussion, we came up with, and all agreed with these basic guidelines:

Basically what we discussd and agreeded on, is that the monthlys be kept more centrally located--move it around town so it would fair to everybody as far as traveling distances--permanent time/date , so people can make plans in advance, such as getting off work/scheduling (in this case the second Sat every month @ 4PM.)

The offical "monthly meet" was only to be 2 hours long. Now we also agreed that in many cases, after the "offical monthly meet", we may split off in groups and go do something like go to one of the local car shows like Sam's or the Woodlands, or go to the dragstrip or anything special that might be happening in town.

The first of the organized "monthly meets" was on the west side of town (Hooter's on weisteimer--then we all decided to cruise to Sam's and hang out at the car show for a while.). We agreed that the second "organized" monthly would suspended in favor of the "Summer Meet", but as far as rotating around town it would count as going to the southeast side (where we have a major concentration of TGO members). The next meet is/was to be on the North side (ne--n--nw or somewhere in that general vicinity).

I would imagine that since that area of town includes both the every Sat night car show up in the Woodlands as well as HMP (1/8 mile strip)--that there will be a group going to one or the other (or 2 groups going to one or the other).

Unless there is an overwhelming group that wants to go do something like a car show or some special event, I personally, am thinking about going to HMP and and if anybody wants to go with me--U are more than welcome. It is not part of the offical monthly meet--just something to go do afterwards on a Sat night!

So, if we follow our own guidelines that we ALL agreed on, the next monthly will be July 9th--4 Pm--location yet to be decided.

I was going to start a thread for that in a few days, but I guess it's time to do that NOW?

So, Having said that (several times), unless there is a good reason to change the time and date, WHERE DO WE WANT TO MEET--July 9th @ 4PM?

I'll start the ball rolling here.

First off, does anybody know of any special car shows or special events of ANY type that we would want to try and tie in with the monthly? It does not necessarily need to be a car event, but since most of us are performance car oriented, it might be a good thing if it leaned in that direction. At the moment, I personally don't know of anything that falls into that catagory, but I have not started checking around either. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Second, It has been suggested in the past, when we go to the north side, we go to "TRACK 21". That is the new fancy indoor go kart track. Considering it will be the middle of July, and INDOOR/Meeting event might be the HOT TICKET (pun intended). Not sure if that place has food available--if we decide to meet there, we can find out.

Third, meet at a restaurant of some type. A relaxed atmosphere is probably the most suited for our motley crew! I don't want to get in a rut right off the bat, but everybody seemed to enjoy Hooter's for a couple of reasons, (that I won't go into here)

Wherever we meet, it should have adequate parking so, we can hopefully park together in a group to "show off" our cars!

SUGGESTIONS?

I recently found a really nice little park. I cant remember the name of it right now, but I pass it every day on my new way home from work. Its just off Saums road by the Velodrome (bike track) over by Mayde Creek High School. It's not to far off Barker Cypress, a few miles to the West down Saums. Its kind of hidden and doesn't get too much traffic, but there are several large parking areas, each with picninc tables and a bathroom. There are wooded bike/hike trails along a little creek (Must be Mayde Creek).

It would an excellent place for "Park" meet. We could go to Sams on I10 afterwards as well, not too far.

I will get the name and exact map and post it. If we don't go there now, we should keep it in mind for the future.

Larry,

Maybe U missed this part in the original post:

If we are to stay with the guidelines that we discussed and agreed, we are to rotate it around town. Since we have done west and southeast, it's time to go north.

We also agreed that the monthlys would probably be best if we meet at a restaurant or something, so we could keep it simple as possible (no organizing food bbq's ETC.)

I know the area U are talking and Yes u are right, it is an EXCELLENT area for a meet, but I think it would be better for one of the larger, more organized annual type meets where we do a BBQ and food thread/pot luck type meal like the Annual winter meet, summer meet, Spring Fling ETC!

Right. As I said, keep it in mind for when it is appropriate. I know this area because that's the area I live/work. The north area I really don't know.

I think it would be an excellent area for the next BIG meet--maybe even better than Bear Creek Park! even closer to Sam's for those who are "directionally challenged"

Not sure......do a mapblast or mapquest or Yahoo maps thing and it will tell U. Just enter Houston Tx. in destination and it should come up. If/when we actually decide on location of next meet--remind me and I'll give U the actual address and zip code and you will have diections to the front door of wherever it is!

Where the hell is Nacogdoches? No, really, according to mapquest, it's about 141 miles, or 3 hour drive. If your car is running good, go 70 mph and get here in two hours.

Try to come down for a meet. That would be great, always love to see new faces and cars

If you guys want to meet up on the north-side, have it at Jergens park in Tomball. It's located on the street behind Tomball High School. It has a nice big parking area with shade and a huge pavilion area with pits etc....

Heck, I may even show up for that one!

Just an idea.........

Sounds good..we definately need a radar detector though. Last year I racked up two tickets and this year one so far..man it sucks. Hwy 59 between Lufkin and outskirts of Houston are bad.

What is 43 on the chart

Timing at standard 6* with timing wire disconnected and ecm in diagnostic mode (paperclip in socket) If U are not familar with the procedure--so a search on the appropiate board--the subject has been covered so many times, i think there is archived articles in the tech section and/or the FAQ's

I looked it up:
43. Low voltage at electronic spark timing circuit

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hlight=43+code

do a search--"code 43"

Good suggestion!

They used to have a small car show there every Sat night. There was never that many cars there at once, but there were always a bunch of cars that came and went throughtout the night.

The last I heard, the Sat night show there had pretty much disappeared, but I hope I am wrong. I know a couple of the thirdgenners used to hang out there on a regular basis, F-bod and Sonar and somebody else that I can't remember their name.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THE SAT NIGHT SONIC SHOW STILL EXISTS?

Even if it doesn't, it would be a good place to meet. It's about half in the middle (location) of HMP and the Woodlands show, and since there will probably be a bunch of us pair off and go do one or the other, it's a REAL good location.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF THE WOODLANDS SHOW IS STILL GOING ON SAT NIGHTS?

Last time I went to Woodlands show, it was all rYce. Last Sat. I drove by and noone was there.

The Sonic show is Dead too!

I think I heard someone say that the Sonic / JCI show all moved out to Atascasita, but I don't know the exact location.

Hey, the last time I checked, Tomball was still considered the Northside!

Well, we really need to figure out where the July meet will be held.

I know that when we originally had all the discussions about getting the monthlys organized, one of the topics was keeping them a centrally located as possible. It wa suggested that we try and keep it no further out than the 610 loop.

In theory that is all well and good , but in reality, I'm not so sure that is fesiable. In thinking about what many of the different areas of town are like around the 610 loop on the north side, I'm not so sure there are any that I would want to go hang out in, much less take my wife.

As well, also thinking about where the concentrations of members are located (referring back to the Hou. area member list), I think making the beltway the "boundry" of where we should schedule the monthlys is probably a more realistic approach. Let's face it, Houston is a BIG city. We are just going to have to deal with it!

If anybody has any suggestions or comments about this, or has any other suggestions for the location of the July monthly, PLEASE respond--we are all ears!

U know after rereading this post, it has occured to me that the most "central" location for all of us would be in the downtown area. It would be pretty much the same drive for everybody. Does anybody know of any locations (like a relaxed atmosphere restaurant) downtown (in the better parts of downtown!) that could accomidate our needs as far as parking (no paid parking)?

Since we have only had one suggestion for a location for the July monthly, I would like to at least throw out another location, just so we have a couple to choose from.

Coz_305 suggested the Sonic drive-in @ Aldine Westfield and FM 1960. They used to have a small car show there every Sat night. There was never that many cars there at once, but there were always a bunch of cars that came and went throughtout the night, but not sure if that happens any more.

I would like to throw out a suggestion for the Hooter's at 45n + 1960. It's about a block west on 1960. See map attached:

http://hooters.Know-Where.com/hooter...e=060&address=

If nobody else makes any suggestion in the next couple days, I will put up a poll and let everybody decide the location for the July monthly. (Saturday--July 9th @ 4PM)

I said in another post/thread that I am thinking about going out to HMP (1/8 mile strip) after the monthly meet is over. The "official" monthly is from 4pm to 6/7 pm (or however long we hang out, at wherever we end up) If anybody wants to go we can do the mass cruise thing to HMP. It's an easy cruise to HMP from either location suggested--probably about a 20 minute drive. I am also still trying to find out what HMP has scheduled for that night.

I am also trying to find out about what happened to the Woodlands meet or where it has been moved to, or any other Sat night shows on the notth side, so if U are not into going to the drag strip, it would give U an option of something else to go do with other members, after the monthly is over.
