Show me your favorite ****...

shift ****. I just ordered a Hurst Dual Gate shifter and I want to replace the plain black ****. Doesn't matter, if it's a ball, t-handle or pistol grip.

Hmm. I dunno about auto *****, but on my GTA and my IROC I have an MBA billet ****. I love them. In the GTA I've got the satin aluminum with the engraved bird logo. In the IROC I keep it a little more conservative and went with the black **** with the bowtie engraved. Awesome quality and feel.

Anyone know if manual ***** can go on the dual gate? So far, I'd like to get a Hurst T-handle if it would fit.

something doesn't add up here. if you like the hurst, why didn't you just get the hurst, its cheaper...the only reason i could think of would be if you got the model that has the thirdgen shifter plate.

I DID get the Hurst, it's a Hurst Dual Gate Shifter from Year One as pictured below. What I want to change is JUST the black **** on the top to a T-handle or other good looking ****.

How much did that Dual/Gate run you? I'm still considering ditching the Megashifter and getting that, but I really like the ratchet action....

I've got 2 B&M T-Handles for sale, one is for a manual and one is for the Megashifter. The auto shift handle has a smaller hole, so if you had to, you could make the hole bigger to fit your shifter.
The manual one is a large hole already, not sure if it's too large for your application.

Buckeye, the MBA ***** come with a ton of different thread inserts, so I'd say there's an awful good chance that it will fit with one of the adapters. If you get the thread size of the hurst handle, I'm sure the folks at MBA would be happy to tell you if they have an instert.

Jza, the shifter was $230, plus shipping. Kinda steep, but I was actually going to keep the stock shifter b/c I disliked the auto shifters I've seen so much. The Megashifter and Hammer were the only 2 that could be used w/ a 700R4 that I personally thought even looked ok. After seeing the dual gate, I had to have it. Just MHO.

Jim, I am really considering a black MBA ball with "IROC" on it, but haven't heard back from MBA yet about the price, since it would be a custom engraving. If it's too much $$$, I might get the black "Z28" ball.

Buckeye, where did you get the shifter, and was it backordered at all? I'm hoping to get one this summer for my '88 IROC.

www.yearone.com It didn't say anything about being back-ordered.

For a Dual Gate......

I'm sorry for replying to a dead thread, but I want to make one similar to this one. A bit of lathe work and a custom jewel and engraving. A black ball would be nice.

Cause they look cool Seriously though, I didnt see that. Maybe they should make it light up using LEDs (ie. no heat), instead of a regular bulb. Using a regualr bulb sounds kind stupid to me. They burn out faster and you have to deal with the heat.

I would like a Dual/Gate 2 but i have a TH350, currently i just cant go into first gear cause 2nd gear is my 1st. So would this work the same on a TH350 with a dual gate?

If i get this I want the Aluminum shifter that fits the grip of your hand, like the older muscle car shifters to replace the back ****.

If I understand you correctly, you're running a TH350 and using the TH700 shifter assembly like below?

TH350 --- TH700

P ---------> P
R ---------> R
N ---------> N
D ---------> OD
S ---------> 3
L ---------> 2
x ---------> 1 (not used)

The Dual Gate works essentially like the stock shifter, only it has positive stops in the "race gate". I would think the Dual Gate would work for you.

It just hit me....

Some of the 2nd Gen F-Bodies came with a "gated" stock shifter (I know '70 GTO's came with them). The shifter was spring loaded. Push the handle to the right against spring pressure and upshift. Release the handle, push right and upshift again.....solid stops at each gear just like the Dual Gate. My '74, 6-cylinder Camaro had one (why, is beyond me).

If it isn't a hack job to put in, I wonder if this would be a better alternative with a TH350?

Yes, that is how my setup goes. They dont make one for us guys who change to a TH350...

And 70 GTO's didnt come with dual gates. I know. I'm a Pontiac guy. But that doesnt mean they couldnt be made to fit. I know they came in 67-68 goats, and maybe in 69? But not in 70. They just have the standard floor shifter for the automatics. The dual gates were made my hurst and pontiac used them in the goats...
