progress on painting my t tops

some of you might know i got my car painted b4 i put it away for the winter, but the guys never painted my black trimming and it needed it real bad... spots all over it of bare metal. so today i took it out and started it. first i took my t tops off and brought them in my basement and stripped all the paint off, took me about 15 mins w/ a metal pad and some paint thinner. then sprayed a couple coats of bulldog adhesion promoter on, let that dry then 3 coats of black paint made for cars, forget what its called. heres pics of what im talking about. sorry i forgot to take before pictures, but it looks nice i think, they are nice and shiney... you can see in the first one the reflection of the paper

then i went in the garage and had my brother help me tape off my car and strip the paint off the middle part of the t tops, and smooth out around the edges with sand paper.

here is a close up of the bare metal in the center part of the t tops

and attached is another view. ill keep you guys updated as i move along .. most likely will continue it tommorow unless it rains like im told it will

C&C ttops eh?

the factory ttops have plastic frames, at least the part that you painted is plastic on the factory pieces.

For the glass, you can use 000 steel wool to polish out imperfections, and rainx to polish them clear and repell water. Or an automotive window cleaner.

Just FYI the ttops on your car are Cars and Concepts TTops, the outside edges are thicker than GM ttops, and the weatherstripping is significantly different. Also the black trim at the front and rear of the ttop openings are specific to the C&C ttops, as the GM ttops go directly from the rubber to the painted body.

The top outside edge of GM ttops is fiberglass or a similar plastic material. If you were to sand them down to bare metal, you'd be sanding awhile.

Drew,

I have the C&C t-tops in my car. I bought it used that way. Now some of the seals are coming apart. They have a little canvas type material with an orange wire running through it. Well unfortunetly I know what color that wire is because I can see it.

Other than that, they don't leak or anything bad like that, they just look like crap.

What I'm getting to is, would you know how to get in contact with them so I can get new seals? Are they still in business? I've tried all I can to find them online, but no luck.

Any info you could give would be great.

Thanx,
AJ

mine are doing the same thing.. i just ripped out all the orange wire that was showing, it dosent leak either. the only problem i have w/ the t tops are that when i get going fast they make a lot of noise on the driver side but when i pull it down it stopps all wind noise, somehow i have to get it to pull down more. also on the passenger side the handle dosent like to stay all the way closed, its no big deal, you have to really pull them down to open them but it just irritates the hell out of me

The C&C ttops have been discussed pretty heavily in the past. I think it was the sunroof doctor or something similar that still had weatherstripping for them...

incidently, Fiero's also used C&C ttops, but of course they're a different size.
