Tonneau Cover/ Parade Boot, New Reproduction Now Available

We now have the 87-92 Convertible Tonneau Cover Panels / Parade Boots available, new reproductions. They are made from a hand laid fiberglass covered in a black madrid vinyl like the originals. There are 3 different applications. You can check these out on our web site here

I would like to know how these fit. I just had mine recovered and I'm not quite happy with the way it turned out. If anyone buys one, let us know. Thanks.

Hi,
I would agree UNTIL you know what goes into the production of these, then it would be more understanding for you. as usual its always about price not product you would be shocked if you know what raw cost on material and labor alone is .
Sincerely, Bruce

If you want it cheaper, I suppose they could make it in China... And we all know how good of quality Chinese products can be. The way I see it Bruce is keeping Americans working... Is it expensive? Sure, but it is not out of line IMHO... I find it funny that people buy a $1000 car hoping to restore for another $500. If you need it, then you buy it, if you only want it and cannot afford it, then do something else. It is not like he is the government and stealing your money with nothing in return going against the 5th amendment....

Looking at the pictures, my guess is he has more labor than a spoiler in it..

John

Nice pieces. glad to see someone making vert stuff. Ive made a lot of my own composite / fiberglass stuff. So To the guys saying over prices. Let me see you make a GOOD mold to reproduce these pieces. Materials , labor etc.. No different then a fiberglass hood. etc..

Price is in the ball park.

It depends on how big your girl/boy friend is and what you're doing on it.

It's stuck to a big stamped metal piece in the same exact shape as it. If they break the stock panel (much less the fiberglass piece), they've bent the metal below it.

Now the front corners due extend beyond the metal and could be damaged.

It's strong enough for much more than sitting.

Re: Tonneau Cover/ Parade Boot, New Reproduction Now Available

Still not correct the 92 were different had switch hole cut out and then separate cut for release handle other then that the front comers don't look curves enough ( could be picture need different angles)but that's why there reproductions, not oem

What type of glue / adhesive is used to secure the cover to the metal tonneau base?

Not sure what the factory used, but for the two times I've replaced mine I just did a zig-zag of clear silicone with more on the front corners. Lay it on, adjust it out, then stack some weight on top for 24h.

Re: Tonneau Cover/ Parade Boot, New Reproduction Now Available

Thanks Bruce. As far as price and people complaining it's overpriced, I don't remember getting into this hobby to save money and drive a awesome GTA or IROC Z. Everything today is overpriced. My GTA convertible that I bought for next to nothing because it didn't run, is going to cost way more to restore than it's worth. I bought it because it's a GTA, 350 TPI, and convertible. It's flame red metallic my favorite color. That's the car I've wanted for a long time. So If the price of parts to restore was a factor, I would have bought a low mileage original for $18,000-$24,000...
I'm just glad Bruce makes parts like he does...no ones perfect

Re: Tonneau Cover/ Parade Boot, New Reproduction Now Available

Luis Hernandez had the trim piece made for the 1989 Trans am. the plastic part under the door pull on the inside. He did it because no one reproduces them and original pieces crack and are missing all together. He fixed his car and many others now have theirs fixed because of him.
I don't think he made a boat load of money doing this, especially after the machinist had to reconfigure it a few times...
The part forward of door lock...the part behind door pull..that's cracked

That is how most business get started, it is not a matter of sitting down and figuring out what would make me the most money. It is figuring out what the need is and filling it. Other people come and ask to have one built for them and it is born.
