Will a viper engine fit in a 3rd gen.

just lke the subject says, will a V10 1995 Dodge Viper engine, fit in a 3rd gen?

Granted, some stuff would probably have to be changed, but for the most part, would it? how much longer is a V10 compared to a V8, i know, one more cylinder on each side.. that's about 4 inches.. i dun see why it couldn't.. move the radiator a bit forward possibly.. that's all.. *shruggs*.

Just wondering here...

Transmission: 700R4 that will magically turn into a 6 speed one day.
With a little imagination, some know-how, the right tools, and a dump truck full of money, ANYTHING is possible. I think the Viper engine, the newer one that is, is around 500 cubic inches give or take a couple. I know you'd have to fabricate a lot of stuff though, the T56 should be the easiest part cuz there are now tranny crossmembers for the t56. Other than that I am in the dark as well. If you do it, please post pictures!

Engine: L98 5.7
If your going to go to all the trouble to fit in a dodge engine why not go all out and just stick in a Cadillac Sixteen in there? 1000ft-lbs tq, 1000hp, 830Ci, just under double the power and tq, (smaller pistons just more) so its only slightly longer....

oh yes, i like that.. but too much work.. least, for just 400 hp & 486 torque it's too much work. pfft.

Re: Will a viper engine fit in a 3rd gen.

Last night I was talking with my new step-son, about cars, and this thread is pretty much exactly where our discussion ended. I just read the whole thread, I'll have him do so when he wakes.
Anyway, getting 500 HP from a junkyard 454 requires a $500 nitrous kit, or a thousand dollar pair of heads. But a Crower 224HR cam for a V10 from a Ram 2500 looks to end up costing near $500 as well.
Multiplying the flow of an intake port at 0.500" lift times the number of cylinders, then some division with the cubic inches, the V10 has the advantage, especially if the V10 heads get ported.
I have seen these V10s in the salvage yard, the cost is under $300. Fitting it in the car is obviously possible with the right hood and probably mods to both the oilpan and crossmember, not sure about the exhaust manifold situation.
From what I can tell, there are no more than 3 V10 third gens in existence, none of them known to be running and driving.
So we will be starting a new thread, and starting with a 47RE transmission.

i guarantee that you have never, ever seen an all aluminum Viper V10 in a junkyard for $300.. they probably have dozens of Ford and Dodge cast iron V10's that they can't get rid of because the engine dying is probably why all those trucks are in the junkyard, but none of them are from a Viper...

Re: Will a viper engine fit in a 3rd gen.

The money you will save on the cheap cost of a Dodge v10 will cost you down the line in trying to fit it and all the components into the 3rd gen. Cheap amd high hp doesnt go together. One way or another its gonna end up being about the same is cost. But going sbc with just be less stress. So why even consider a dodge v10? What is the upside?

the upside is that you get to own a car that impresses people that don't know anything about what actually makes a performance car a performance car, while also owning a car that sounds like a dying antelope getting choked to death by an asthmatic cheetah... or something like that..

Re: Will a viper engine fit in a 3rd gen.

In the real world, where enjoying the car in traffic is a daily thrill, and the racetrack only a dream for "someday", the iron version in the 2500 and 3500 Dodge pickups, which is under $300, is worth the extra 100 pounds over the Viper version. It has the instant torque off-idle that comes only from displacement, and more total airflow through all the intake ports combined than any stock LS7, whether LSx or old BBChev. Go read Steven's thread, he explained that he needs something unique. I tried to steer him to a Ford V10 with a TR3650 in a late-80s Mustang. With 2.73:1 gears and the later heads, that idea has potential. He also likes the IROC-Z Camaros but not many Mustangs, though he has no brand loyalties yet. He's hoping to make this iron V10 sound like a Viper, though all he's heard of those comes from youtube. And wimping out with another cookie-cutter 350 is just mediocrity. Yawn. As for V10s dying, do some more research. The earlier Ford V10 heads had problems with the spark plug threads, but the reason V10s show up in the yards around here is crashed trucks, and the reasons the engines stay in the yards is a mix of single-digit MPG plus the ECM situation. I think I can get the 8.0 to top 20 MPG when cruising for MPG, once geared right, but he may never let me drive it.
