Stainless works Exhaust
Looking to put this on my '87 IROC, my exhaust guy is picky.. And I really can't stand the Flowmaster, Magnaflow, or Hooker tail pipes.. You could say I'm picky..
Anyone install this unit?

Re: Stainless works Exhaust
"my exhaust guy is picky" ???? ..To each there own but ...the only part of that $1,000.00 system that is 3in. is the intermediate pipe.
2 1/2in. tail pipe is not a 3in system.
My local muffler shop has 10 different 3in. tail pipes and tips to chose from.
These are cut back American Thunder 3in tips.

Re: Stainless works Exhaust
I have SW single out entire system headers back. Not a 90* turn down, more like 45-60*
If you're picky, SW & Kooks.

Re: Stainless works Exhaust
This is Hawk's LS7 system made by SW. 2" primaries into 3" y into 3.5" out.
Headers fit perfectly, though pass side required bell housing dropped! Bruce sold it as, "fit like a glove," and for the money it should have. Well, I had a lot of trouble and more money, but I got there. Bruce set an expectation, sold me on it, but that expectation was false. Don't know who to blame for the ill-fit, but I know the expectation was far from accurate. It's a difficult job to fit 3" y-pipe around an 4L65e, but that's what I was paying for, did not receive, and had to invest more.
The one thing they did get right is the sound. Low rpm, the slow exhaust gases expand in the muffler and it's a muffled deep sound. At high exhaust speed, it's straight through, screams mean & loud. Best of both worlds. Waiting for h/c/i to really hear the sound!!
For a catback system, no problem for you. You could always have your guy angle cut those turndowns a little better - I like that style, just not 90*. Ask lots of questions, you never know what all the options are unless you ask.
Both Kooks & SW will give you quality.

And the argument about the 2.5" tail pipes
Guys... My 8.3L V10 has 3" down to 2.5" tail pipes.. True dual, but a hell of a lot more exhaust gases than a stock 5.7.

Re: Stainless works Exhaust
Nothing wrong with the duel 2.5" tail pipes if that's the look your going for.
I was just saying that a true 3"CAT Back is 3"throughout. Including the tailpipes.
I just like the look of the 3" diameter holes facing the car behind me. Looks mean.....

Here's some pics from Waaaaaay back, for an example.. You can just kind of see the tip from about 30 feet back, these were 2 1/2" from a Flowmaster 80.. I was cheap back then so they were aluminized..
Here's what on my IROC now.. It's the Magnaflow kit.. So bad..

Re: Stainless works Exhaust
I like the way factory tips are hidden, I'd do that but use bigger pipe.
