Re: summit catback exhaust ?
I heard a 3in summit catback exhaust on a 80s Firebird a few months back and man it sounded great! Especially for $250 or so he paid for it.

Re: summit catback exhaust ?
Thanks. That's what I want to hear. If dynomax made a 3 inch exhaust that's what I'd go with. I don't like flowmaster. I saw the summit 680023 exhaust, 3 inch, aluminized, 259.00, can't go wrong. That's what I'll go with....Zapr.

The Texas Speed Rumbler system is made for 98-02 Camaros but will actually fit right under our cars also. It has a mean sound to it also and under $300 Im pretty sure.

Re: summit catback exhaust ?
I installed the Summit exhaust when I did my fuel pump. The quality is surprisingly good. It is a relabeled Heartthrob system. The tubes are nice mandrel bends. The problem is mine arrived without the passenger side hanger welded on. Summit customer service was great though. My car is all stock up to the cat and I have to say this exhaust is surprisingly quiet. I was afraid of it being too loud since it is so cheap, but it's actually very quiet. It sounds nice when you rev it but I actually wish it was a little louder. I'll take too quiet over too loud though. It would probably sound great with headers and a high flow cat. Also, it's a nice way to get all the mandrel bent pipe and you could add whatever muffler you want in the future if you felt like it.

Re: summit catback exhaust ?
Won't be getting the exhaust till next year. If you go to summit's site and put in part number 680023, there is a couple of reviews. Also they have part number 680022 which is also 3" but for 2.5" cat. There is reviews for it too. The reviews are good. I am for sure getting this exhaust. Again for the price you can always change the muffler......Zapr.

I've had mine on for like 1000 miles now and I think it's actually broken in and gotten a little louder, if that's believable. I tried to take a video but it sounded terrible. I'll give it another try. I can't wait to hear it once I get my headers on.

Here is a very poor video but I finally remembered to try and get one.

Re: summit catback exhaust ?
Thanks for the sound! Does the Summit 680023 have full 3.00 inch outlet pipes or 2.50?

Re: summit catback exhaust ?
Resurrecting an old thread, I know, but I figured it would be better to add my question here instead of starting a new thread on the same topic.
My question is that while the intermediate pipes are 3", the outlets are only 2.5". Would going to a smaller diameter outlet somewhat reduce the performance gains from the rest of the 3" system? Obviously, you can swap out the muffler and outlet pipes later on, I'm just curious about what kind of performance difference there would be between this system and one that is 3" all the way to the outlets.

Re: summit catback exhaust ?
The cross sectional area of a 3" diameter circle (pipe) is 7.07". A 2.5" diameter circle is 4.91" so with 2 x 2.5" outlets you effectively have 9.82" of cross sectional pipe diameter out of the muffler.
If you go down to dual 2.25" outlets your effective cross sectional diameter is 7.96" so you're still doing better than the 3" pipe.
If you go down to dual 2" outlets you are at 6.28" so that's when you could say you're starting to lose the benefit of the 3" pipe.
My question is: Is your car really using all the potential of that 3" pipe anyway? Probably not. I think you can move a lot of power through a 3" exhaust pipe.
I'm not an engineer so somebody can correct me, but that's my thought.

Re: summit catback exhaust ?
I'm fully intending to replace everything all the way back to the engine, so I'm planning on eliminating as much of the bottleneck as possible with whatever the widest pipes are available/compatible all the way back. I'm just trying to determine if I'm going to be robbing myself of much potential horsepower by going to 2.5" pipes right at the outlets to justify spending more on a different system that's 3" all the way to the exhaust tips.
