TPI: Aftermarket VSS????
Hey Everyone,
Getting very close to dropping my TPI into the 1965 C10, the main car show for the year is next weekend, after that its TPI Time
I am getting ready to place my big amazon order, and the only thing I am not sure of is the VSS. I need a VSS with speedo cable pass-through, I know that Jags the Run makes one, but I was hoping to get one that's a bit more common(being a show truck its 100% guaranteed that something impossible to get quick will go out the day of the show). So, with that in mind, I found a Dakota Digital pass-through on amazon prime, looks great, easy to obtain quickly. HOWEVER: it puts out 8k ppm, rather than the stock GM 4k ppm. I am programming a custom prom to delete EGR and VATS, so it will be easy to change the ppm in the PROM, but I need to know if that will cause any issues for the ECM.
Suggestions? Thoughts? Anyone done this before?
Edit: Specifically Dakota Digital SEN-01-4160

Re: TPI: Aftermarket VSS????
I have purchased two of the 4k VSS from JTR, and never had any problems with them. Even if it should fail, you can still drive the vehicle. Not sure how you mean to change the ppm in the prom.

I see, it does look like you could do some speedo corrections with that. I use two versions of XDF with that ECM, I think they are labeled $8dXDF and the other 8dV03XDF. Neither ore has any adjustment for VSS pulses. Where did you find that one?

Re: TPI: Aftermarket VSS????
Its supposed to be a community driven hot tune for AUJP 7730 ECM's, since I am putting this motor in my hot rod a "hot tune" is what I am after
I found it on gearhead_efi, link here(its on post #4) http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...highlight=aujp
I also just discovered that someone put out a SAUJP_V5, guess I will have to look at upgrading, link to that one is here: http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...27749-v-S_AUJP

Re: TPI: Aftermarket VSS????
I'm getting a little mixed up. SAUJP-3,4, or 5 is a bin. I did not know any of them had XDFs created just for them. I have an SAUJP-V3 bin in a car right now, and used the XDFs I mentioned to edit it. It always seemed to work, so I guess there's more than one way to do it!

Re: TPI: Aftermarket VSS????
Inside the SAUJP4 and SAUJP5 zip files there is an XDF, it has all kinds of extra stuff to make editing tunes much easier, and apparently to let you set your own VSS pulse rate...

Re: TPI: Aftermarket VSS????
I got the L98 350 block out of an 89 camaro and bolted on the top end of a 91 LB9 305 so I could go SD setup instead of MAF and not even have a 9th injector to delete, I haven't touched the heads so they should still be iron.

Re: TPI: Aftermarket VSS????
Thanks for the tip. I see that the timing tables look a bit aggressive in v4 and v5, ill try the ones they include and if they knock then ill retard the timing until the knocking stops.
