Re: summit racing heads?

They sorta remind me of trickflows 175cc heads or a revalved L98 zz4 head. Look nice for a mild setup that absolutely needs centerbolt valve covers but there are other heads by summit which are actually brodix ik series heads i believe that would work for hotter 350's and larger motors

Re: summit racing heads?

I am looking for a set under 1k but I all ready have a HSR so I need the 87 up for the intake pattern. I not sure if someone makes a dual pattern head. ?

Re: summit racing heads?

You dont need a dual pattern head as that cant be done. The intake manifolds are made dual pattern and can be made to fit any head. Hsr should be a dual pattern intake. Look at the 4 center holes of the intake. Are they oval or figure 8 shaped? If so you can bolt it to any head

Re: summit racing heads?

Patriot 185's did well in the budget head class. Jegs brand 180's are good stuff too. You have some choices there but i'd change valvesprings to good springs that match your cam's requirements

Re: summit racing heads?

Jegs heads are pro-filer castings just relabled for jegs. Good heads for the money. Id love to see what the 195's would do in a test like that

Re: summit racing heads?

Yeah i was looking at those same summit heads. they are angled and id prefer straight as I know straight will clear my headers with the edelbrock heads i have now. but i will stick with these edelbrock heads anyway unless i wanna step up to some 195 cc heads which I probably should but dont really wanna spend the $.

Re: summit racing heads?

i was thinking about useing some alum, angle plug, lt-1 heads that i have, on a gen1 motor. i just doubt i could find headers to fit the angle plug heads? or will they even bolt up/work? IDK? would it be worth it? i wouldnt be scared to try the jegs or summit heads, if i had the money. i talked to a guy at blueprint engines and he told me the heads are cast over-seas but assembled here. much like most CHEAP alum heads. edelbrock is supposed to be all USA. hmmmm,....decisions.

Re: summit racing heads?

Jegs are Pro filer and are made in usa. Cast machine and assembled. Same with dart's shp series. Budget heads for budget power but some motors have been doin very well with those heads

Re: summit racing heads?

If memory serves me correctly Trick Flow and Summit are connected
(ownership wise). I just worked a show this weekend in Reno,NV at Hot August Nights hosted by Summit Racing called the big Boy Toy Store. Basicly 70 of the top Summit Racing Manufactures that display product and then send you over to summits booth for the sale. Anyways Trick Flow shared exhibitor space with Summit Racing. It was pretty obvious they were in bed together.

Re: summit racing heads?

can run lt1 heads on a gen 1 motor unless you modify them.

the e-street edelbrock heads are the same casting as their performer or performer rpm's the valves and guides and seats and springs and all that are cheaper parts.

Re: summit racing heads?

I dont get why people insist on those junky pro comps when even these cheap Summit and Jegs aluminum heads are really nice stuff.

Re: summit racing heads?

I had a set of 200cc summit heads a few years back. Great heads for the money, but for whatever reason, EVERY exhaust guide went bad after 2000 miles. Trying to figure out a weird noise and it ended up being that. They are brodix ik series heads like orr said earlier because the replacement parts came from brodix. Ended up with dart heads after that because my friend really wanted the summit heads for his build. I never changed anything after the new heads and never had a prob since like that, but neither did my friend with the summit heads. Really dont know why they went bad.

Re: summit racing heads?

If you do a search you will see brodix ik heads have had valve guide issues. Good heads just the valve guides may be suspect.

Joe-all I want to inject here,is you you can't take articles like this at face value.Certainly there are heads out in the market not tested at the price point that where not included.Hummm RHS??. Peak torque at over 4 grand and what about below that??. Bottom line, these magazines are in the business of selling ad's to those head manufactures so they sell heir heads.Almost never to you see a test saying someone's heads are poor. They are not completely analytical requiring you to read between the lines.

Tell you what Joe.I talked to a good friend of mine at a Super Chevy show that ran a dyno test for a magazine article. He was laughing when the article came out because it took four sets of Patriot heads to find a set that wasn't cracked right out of the box.Yeah that wasn't in the article.LOL.

Re: summit racing heads?

I have also heard that magnesium bronze valve guides are better than the phosphourus (sp?) and the summit 200cc heads are brodix IK's.

The other summit heads im sure are fine. I do not have to change heads after all so I can save money so I am happy.

I'd have no qualms running the summit branded head myself though.
