Wonderbar from TDS

Wonderbar from TDS
Just got (and installed) my new Wonderbar from TDS. It is one of their refinished OEM pieces. I ordered mine in the red powder coat, for $30 you can't beat it!
Easiest install...ever.
Very pleased.
I didn't swap out the sway bar bushings because A) they weren't bad and B) I may go to a 36mm bar and would just replace them then.

My version has a 3rd mount hole per side. This design improvement allows you to mount the brace in place with those extra two bolts. Then swing back up the sway bar and sway bar mount brackets. Every other version (including the GM brace you bought) you have to raise up the brace, sway bar and sway bar mount brackets all at the same time and line up the bolts for the sway bar mount brackets. With my design the steering brace is already held up in place while the sway bar and mount brackets are installed, so there is less weight to lift and hold in place while installing the bolts.
Also that 3rd bolt hole per side bolts directly into the front subframe. Every other version (including GM's) bolt to a bracket which is bolted to the frame.
I hope this helps clarify things.
Thanks for the order, I'm glad you were happy with the GM brace.

Re: Wonderbar from TDS
Ill back up everything Lon claims about his wonder bar. The third hole on each side of the bar makes it a breeze to install compared to a traditional two hole bar. If you are in the market for a wonder bar look at the TDS unit first, I would recommend it to anybody.

Just for clarification. I sold you a GM Steering Brace (aka wonderbar) for $30. That is not my version of steering brace. My version has improvements over the GM version. If you thought installing that brace was easy, you would have been even more impressed with the even easier installation of my version.

Have you had any issues with people who have dual fan cars having problems installing the Wonderbar?
I bought my wonderbar from you some time ago but my car is a single fan and it fits fine. I then bought a set of dual fans from 90 firebird but I can't get them to install because the wonderbar is in the way and was wondering fi you'd heard of this happening before.

Re: Wonderbar from TDS
I can answer this. Yes the lower radiator hose on a 2.8 V6 Equipped car will be squeezed by the TDS Steering Brace, but it doesn't decrease the flow through the hose. The shape of the hose changes from a round to an oval of equal area. If you are concerned about the Brace touching the hose, then you can fit spacer plates or large washers between the Brace and the chassis. I sell longer mounting bolts on my site if you choose the spacer solution.

Re: Wonderbar from TDS
Is the "GM Wonderbar" referred to above, factory installed on IROC Z Verts? How do these bars affect ride, handling etc?

Re: Wonderbar from TDS
I purchased a TDS Wonderbar a while back, and just got around to installing it today. This was on an ‘84 Z28 that never had one from the factory. Before I could even drive it, I could tell a noticeable improvement to the stance of the car. It was sitting level with the rear again rather than the nose end drooping slightly. I was highly impressed with this considering my shocks and struts are shot and need replaced next on my list. The hood also opened straight up again rather than popping it and one side coming up first, followed by the other.
I took it for a drive, and the front end felt much more planted and tight than it ever had before. It instilled confidence in accelerating through turns again rather than having to slow down to minimize body roll. Money well spent for a great product. The three holes on each side allowing you to bolt the Wonderbar to the frame before bolting the sway bar back to it is an ingenious design and makes installation a breeze.
If your car is as old as mine and is an 82-84 that predates even a GM bracer bar there, this should be at the top of your list of things to add to your car. You won’t regret it. Lon includes detailed instructions regarding orientation of the bar and the best steps to follow for the easiest installation. Money well spent. It improved my car so much and had more than a few positive side effects that were unexpected, but well pleasing to realize were a result of having the TDS Wonderbar in place.
Thumbs up from another happy customer.
