they told me not to wax it for 2 weeks. the paint is still "baking" or "curing" although the paint is dry to touch, it apparently has to cure still. i got a basecoat clearcoat paint job. body work is excellant. but the paint still kinda soft in a wierd way. is this normal for a car that was painted yesterday? info needed on this. the job isnt a million dollar paint job or anything but i got alittle more than i payed for. thats good. i just need info on what to do after a paint job is finished and what precautions to take and all that good stuff. if you have anything else to add, cool. thanks in advance.

They are right about not waxing it for a couple weeks.The wax won't allow air get to the paint to cure properly. And try not to drive it too often.If you need to,then don't drive it too fast so bug guts and things like that don't get plastered into the paint too bad before it's completely cured.If you get anything on it,take it off as soon as possible.After a couple weeks,take it to a good detail shop and get a good sealant put on it and waxed with good carnuba wax.

Two weeks is a little bit short honestly, I have always been told to wait for 90 days before waxing a new paint job. I know this seems a bit extreme right, BUT you did just pay a fairly large amount for that shiny new pain...I at least take no chances. The wax itself will suck the moisture right out of undried paint, and from what I've been told by a couple of different body guys, the paint wont actually FULLY dry (cure, whatever) for 90 days...so thats what I've always gone by.

Come to think of it, two weeks does sound a little too short.I would wait AT LEAST 6 weeks. I just got mine out of the body shop about three months ago and just now waxed it.At the car stereo shop that I manage,we also have a detail dept. We always tell customers to wait at least 4-8 weeks if the car has new paint,depending upon the weather.

cool guys then that means that i am not getting the heave ho huh? one other thing, i think alittle dust got trapped in the paint when they painted it and there alittle bit of small tiny little bumps on the hood. is this normal when it is curing, or do i need to get them to buff it out or something? let me know.. thanks guys for the replies so far..

why would they give you the car back only one day after it was sprayed?? or did i read the post wrong? anyways, i waited about 2 months before i waxed mine, i also didnt use any water on it for a bit either, that was a tip from the paint supply store.

I was told when my fender got smashed in not to wax it for a few months (2) cause it had to cure right... If ya just got it done I really don't see a rush.. Just buy a high quality car wash soap and keep it clean and covered or garaged and it will be fine..

Heh, I started wet sanding on my car with 1200 3 days out of the paint booth.. used a waterbug where ever I could to get the surface smooth as glass then buffed it all out using a buffer with a wool pad. Gonna do it all over again come spring time... door dings from people and a run away shopping cart into the front fender 2 weeks after I painted the car, grrr.

I paint show cars for a living and we usually apply a softer liquid wax after the first polish. Although it is really nice to wait two weeks, it's also nicer to wait two months. And then even better to wait three months. The more cured the paint is, the better. I usually wait at least three days to color sand and polish, then I wait till the car is ready to go home to it's owner (or to the next show)then more color sanding and polish and then the carnuba wax. Real mean shine!!!

I just got my car back from the paint shop last week, it came out awesome! The bodyshop manager recommended no wax for at least 5 weeks. That should give the paint enough time to cure. Ill try to hold out longer though!! I went with a base coat/clear coat in white (original color). The local Chevy dealer gave me a great price, and did a really clean job. Im glad I held out and didnt take it to Macco.
