Picking up my dream car today!!
Hello all, i was on the forum back in my high school days! My first car ever was my 1991 firebird formula. I can’t believe my username is still active. Anyway, I’m now in my mid 30’s and have been looking for another third gen for the past couple of years. I saw them with low miles in good condition selling for 15-20k in my area (Long Island, New York). That price isn’t really doable for me for a weekend cruiser. I came across this eBay listing that happened to be about half an hour from me. I thought for sure It would sell for double what I won It for, but I’m beyond excited. So much nostalgia in this ride for me. Hoping to be active on these forums and maybe see you guys at some meets. I’m already deciding if i should keep It all original or throw an exhaust on It….haha. Car has 65k original miles and it’s 100% original and unmolested. Everything works and is described as “show condition”. We will see if that’s true, but for $9,700 I’m absolutely thrilled 😁

Awesome find, and welcome back to club! Congrats! Beautiful car.
As for modding? I don't get too caught up into value and originality unless it's extremely rare, and very low miles. That being said, you obviously didn't buy this car because it was the fastest car out there, you bought it because you have an emotional attachment to what it is, -as is. There's a 91 era 5 speed Honda Prelude on BAT with 6500 miles, and the bidding is at $32,000!!!!!! That car clearly means something to someone, and it ain't because it's fast. If you wanna mod it, go to it, but don't forget what it is about the car that you love, and what you bought it for.

Thanks for the well wishes guys! Got the car today. I’ll start with the good, It runs and drives amazing . As i sort of expected, the car was NOT “showroom condition”. It’s in very good condition for the age, with some sun fading on the roof and wing as well as some nicks and scratches here and there. I’m overall happy with the purchase. One thing i noticed is that this car sounds much better than my old 1991 formula. Any reason for that? I have the window sticker and It has the dual exhaust as an option. I thought all of these cars were dual exhaust.

Very cool car and nice deal in this market in that condition. I wonder if you have the N10 dual catalytic converters? Take a look underneath and see if you have N10 on the RPO sheet in the center console.

At a glance, I'd say you got an absolute steal at that price. Low mileage, original, and under $10k? That's great!

Re: Picking up my dream car today!!
Yeah, the N10 RPO code means that each side of the engine (4 cylinders) has it's own catalytic converter, then AFTER those, they merge into one larger exhaust pipe. Without, as most thirdgens have, each side of the engine runs into one larger pipe first, then that one pipe just has one catalytic converter. The dual cats make a little more power. Technically, since BOTH of those eventually merge into one pipe, neither are "technically" dual exhaust. ....but very cool that you have it. In todays day and age, the little bump in power isn't really worth a whole lot, but to those who KNOW.....it's a cool option to have!!!!! Stick your head up under the passenger side floorboard and you can see them!

Re: Picking up my dream car today!!
Congratulations! I'm excited for you. I remember when I went hunting for a 3rd gen for the same reason. I had an 84' Z28 in HS. I now have an 87' IROC .
My advice is sort of a hodgepodge of what you and the moderator said. Due to the reason you purchased it,, its mileage and condition, it makes a lot of sense to restore it to make it look the way it did when it left the assembly line
Ive never done that however. My IROC had a 305 from the factory and the previous owner put a 5.7L TPI in it. That was my excuse to run wild with modifying it.
I'd like to think I could restore an old car to its original spec if I was dealt with a car like that. But it would be hard because I'm a speed junky.
If you can hold out, do it.
