Interior color change - seatbelts

Hi everyone

I'm in the process of changing the color of the interior on my '89 Firebird. Everything is pretty straightforward so far - I'm repainting the plastic trim, recovering my headlining and door panels and buying new carpet. The only major problem I'm having is seatbelts. I want to change these too, but want them to look brand new like the rest of the interior. Is there some way of getting hold of new seatbelt material and winding new stuff onto my seatbelt mechanisms, or is there a dye out there that will dye my original seatbelts and not fade?

Any ideas will be very welcome

Thanks
Peter

Why not just get seat belts in the colour you need?

Yeah, definately don;t buy new when you can get a used set and make them look new for a fraction of the cost. Heck, I got an entire grey interior for my IROC for $200. Just have to look in the right place. Like someone else mentioned, ebay is a great palce to start.

I got some used ones from Hawks.

Just call him when you order and ask him if he could try and scrounge up a clean pair.

Mine were ****ing awesome, except the plastic was a little faded so I got some Krylon shot on them, and all was well.

I don't know about you guys - but used seat belts are a scary item to me. The idea that these belts were most likely in a wreck that totalled the car out isn't a good one. When a seatbelt fails - people die.

I went with new belts when I changed colors on the 87. GM doesn't sell anything but grey belts anymore. So I coverted my car to 4th gen black belts. Worked perfectly and survivied the wreck I was in. I came out without a scratch after T-boning a guy doing 50 mph....so yeah....4th gen belts work. The front set alone will cost you 300 bucks though.

Well, if the people didn;t die in the car...the seatbelts did their job..lol. I know what you are saying though and I agree. Luckily, seatbelts are easy to visually inspect and test.
