Blending black paint?

My buddy says that I could just wetstand down to primer, hit it with gloss black, and wetsand it even. He said since black is black is black it would blend in fine. Should I do it? My rear hatch is faded really bad as well.

black is extremely hard to blend the way you are talking about. i wouldn't do that. you will see the blend line.

The question is, will a blend line be significantly worse then the white chalking visible (as you can see in the picture). The other side of the roof is even worse, and my rear hatch is all faded.

Get it done right. There is no real way to blend black, you'll just wind up repainting it afterwards.

It's just a temporary fix. Whats worse, huge white chalking spots you can see from 20ft, or a blend line you only notice from 5ft?

You can blend it if your good and careful. I had bad fading over my wheel wells and used that duplicolor spray can and feathered it in and no one could tell unless you were inches away.

Id use the spray can for that kind of job. a regular spray guy will have to large of a pattern.
