Help Me Choose Which 3rd Gen Car To Buy!!!
I have finally found a third gen within my price range and close enough to home. But the problem is their are two and I cant decide between them, and need some help chooseing. And the mileage isnt a factor im going to put a new engine in it anyway.
1985 Z28 Camaro
Engine: 305
Trans: 700R4
Color: Black
Mileage: 136,000
Distance: 6 hour drive
Problems: Bad tires, little bit of surface rust on driver door (not noticeable in picture)
Comments: I love the car but would have to drive 6 hours their and 6 hours back and haul it on a trailor. It also has t-tops in good condition.
1986 Iroc-Z Camaro
Engine: 305
Trans: 700R4
Color: Red
Mileage: 126,000
Distance: 2 1/2 hour drive
Problems: It has a salvaged title, doesnt have factory hood.
Comments: The car looks great in the picture and the car was wrecked in 87 and their havent been any problems with it since the wreck, the hood dont bother me to much I plan on getting a new one anyway, but I dont know about the title I think it would be ok considering it is all put back together and has been driven over 100,000 miles after being fixed. And I dont plan on selling it and I think that is what hurts with the title. It also has good t-tops. And the drive is much easier and in a place ive been to quite a bit.
Both cars are within my price range so I wouldnt mind paying the amount wanted for either but I dont know weather to go with the Iroc with the salvage title that I like better and that is closer or the 85 that has a clean title but needs tires and is further away.
Im leaning towards the Iroc but some opinons would help.
Thank You

I like the IROC more myself... but why does it have a salvage title? Wrecked, stolen...?
And what 305's do they have?

The Iroc has the 305 TPI
and it was wrecked in 1987 with 12,000 miles on it.

well in my own little opinon I would get the 86, I think it has the better paint job, the fact its a salvage title wouldn't bother me any, and ditto with the hood. again this is just my opinon. hope it helps.
ps come to think of it either way you get a 3rd gen out of the deal so you really can't lose

Car: '88 GTA, 90 Formula
Engine: 5.7 TPI, fed growth hormones
Transmission: 700r4 4u2?
Axle/Gears: 9bolt
The IROC is probably the better deal, as long as it was repaired correctly. It seems the better looking car, and a salvage title gets you a better deal if you're not worried about resale.

Since you're gonna change the hood and engine(even though neither should need it yet), the '86 won't be "original" anymore anyway. So what difference would having a salvage title make?
I'm partial to black, but the red '86 looks like it's in much better shape cosmetically. And besides being the one you like better, or the one that's closer, it's an IROC! And until you change the engine, it's TPI will be much better than the '85's standard engine--unless the '85 has an L69 HO(code G). Then CRAP!!! Grab the '85 and DON'T change the engine!!!

You make some good points guys, thanks for the help and I will be going to look at the car sometime next week. Will post pictures when I get it. And the 85 does have the base engine.

The red IROC looks to be much better kept outside, which usually is concurent with the mechanical maintainance and interior condition. I would go with the IROC! (And no, I am not partial to it being an IROC, I was looking for a Z28 when I bought mine and it just happened to be an IROC, bonus! )

iroc. my 86 has a rebuilt title because it was a theft recovery. all they stole was the radio, foglights, steering column, and broke out the left window to steal it. it may hurt the resale value, but its a garage queen anyway. only drive on nice days. best of luck, tom

I also was looking at a Z28 when the Iroc came up, and I also wonder what the bra is hideing but I will find out before going to pick it up. Thank You for all the feedback.

i would say the car was wrecked in the front (the reason for the bra, and the different hood) who know's what lies beneath.....let us know. best of luck, tom....heck my 91 z28 is the same way...paint chipped rear bad.
