power hatch problem

power hatch problem
I need a suggestion on what I broke on my power hatch. The hatch clicks, and locks, but the motor doesnt pull the hatch down. It makes no noise or anything. What should I look for?

Get a motor
gear nut
housing (ebay the housing, search for pull down motor and you will see the casings like these

Aftermarket Nylon Guides for 1986-91 F-Body Hatch Pull-Down Unit
You may not need all of these parts immediately, but let me tell you from my own recent experience, just get them now. This is not a job you want to do again in the near future. Most of the parts mentioned are going to be damaged already anyway. Plastics from the 80's were not meant to last. I've got to commend Lon over at Top down solutions, everything I ordered got to me in 2 days flat (from california to texas) and it was all good quality stuff. You cant really go wrong with em.

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Check the pulldown fuse first. In my 89 Formula, it was in a seperate fuse-holder, near the fuse block. It looks a bit like one of the add-on ones you get from a parts place, and takes a 15A fuse.

If the motor won't run, the striker switch is most likely shot.
If it were running and not pulling down, then the gear nut is the most likely component to replace.
The pos above will tell how I tested mine.
I have replaced the gear nut, striker switch (2x), and the reversing switch in mine at different times. I learn a little more each time I take it apart.

mine does the same thing I just hit the switch with something a few times and then it will work. the the panel off hiding the motor and hold the switch by the latch and just tap the stirker switch with something and see if it does anything
