82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

I found these on eBay, but I've never seen them on a camaro before. I loovvvvvve the look of them. Sure they are not practical but my car will basically be a show only car anyways. Does anyone have these? Also I'm wondering why they are so cheap. It doesn't say if it is all 4 headlights or just 2. And if it is 2, would I have to order a 2nd set?? I'm not sure if all 4 headlights on our cars are the same.

Here's a pic of them on a camaro, and then an ebay link to them. Please give me any info you have!!

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

There was a thread about these a couple weeks ago, basically they are not really a projector headlight. All they are, is a H4 conversion with a piece of curved glass over the bulb.

This will actually decrease the amount of light on the road, and increase the amount of glare to other cars.

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

I'm not worried about the light output, the car probably won't even be driven at night anyways. How are the quality of these things, and do you know if its 2 or 4 that it comes with. It says both headlights left and right, but we have 4. thanks for your help!

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

I would have to say the quality is most likely pretty crappy, due to the design of them. But since I don't have them, I'll let someone else chime in on that.

I guessing you only get 2, and since these are H4 conversion you'll also have to rewire too. I had H4's for awhile, and if I remember right the pins on the H4 are different compared to our stock bulbs. I thinkt the ground pin and another have to be switched.

I believe the 'size' of the all 4 of our headlights is the same so I think you can buy 2 sets of these and they'll physically fit the housing. You'll just have to rewire to make them work.

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

I got a set of those...but for my firebird. More or less to have a set of composite housings to do my REAL projector conversion. They are pretty crappy. Mine had glass lenses. The little "projector" lens is just held in with a crappy little strap bracket, and fastened to the headlight bucket with two little screws. And since the screws are along the horizontal, the "projector" lense can flop. When it flops, you have to take it ALL apart and remove the bulb and fix it, etc etc.

They look "ok" in the pic you posted. But make no mistake, they arent projectors, and the quality isnt really good.

You mentioned that you dont care about light output because the car wont be driven at night much... The few times you do have to drive at night you wont be too excited. Plus the glare to other cars is really bad with these. Some things just arent worth their "cool" factor.

Haha...thats my opinion on em anyways...

Are you going to retro in a real projector into the housing? If so, let me know how it turns out.
I've been looking for some 4x6's to use for a retro, but haven't really found any.

I want to put in some bi-xenon HID projectors into something like this, and I think it would look really nice!

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

Yes...Im working on a true retro. I have bi-xenon projectors from an FX-35...the non-frosted ones. I got my actual ballasts from an LS1tech sponser...but the bulbs were dual filament (low beam hid, high beam halogen). They sucked.

Im running them at 6000k. Space is definetly an issue. I have a spare set of buckets that Im going to mount the projector to, so I can still manually adjust them. Im working on how to fit the glass lens into the equation, and what to do about making them look good (hiding the projector except for the lens (shroud)).

i have a set of those with 6k hids in them, they are eh. mainly for the appearence. at night they have dark spots and light up the trees above you. im probably going to take them out and put my other h4 lights in that have a directed beam, surprisingly i dont get high beamed from other drivers but im sure its annoying. needless to say i dont drive the car at night much but when i do it gets annoying.

That's exactly what I want to do, I got the idea from here
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/view...&highlight=7x6

yes space is an issue, I'm nervous about the passenger side, the projector sticking out to far, and hitting the battery.

My biggest problem is finding a sealed beam that I can cut out the back to fit the projector in. Most of the ones I find, are either glass all the way around, or just crappy plastic in the front too.

I would like to find a front glass, back plastic type thing, like what they found for the 7x6 lights.

Here they are after I aimed them down far enough to where they werent throwing off crazy light. You can tell from the pic that they are still producing a TON of glare. I only drove with them for one night...just because it got too dark and I couldnt swap back to my other lights. I got flashed atleast 3 times on the way home....

cdoyle: You are making them for a camaro correct?? If so, you are alittle better off than me. I still think you'll need to cut and fit quite a bit. Im not using the sealed beam much at all... Im using the metal bucket that the head light actually sits in. The HID projectors really arent meant to be left exposed. So you gotta seal them up good. But not so much that they dont have some air space. SO...my solution is to turn the metal bucket into part of the housing. Then, use the glass front from the sealed beam lights to make the front. Just figure out a way to seal it all up... Here are some pics of what i mean and what Im working with...

This is with no trimming of the projector...so it will sit much better than this.

Here is how much room I have behind it. It has to move back over an inch..so I think Ill have room. But...keep in mind the HID bulbs have big connectors on the back. Not just a small plug.

Would you pay $2000 for 4 of these? Basically $500 a piece? They are BI-XENON replacements for the camaro. I was sent this picture from a buddy of mine in Michigan...he doesnt get online alot but when he does Ill ask him where he got these.

$500 a piece, wow, thats crazy for thoose, I've seen them before, but you would only want 2 of them.

Check out this post https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...4-post764.html from this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...plete-now.html

I just don't like how they look, they kinda stick out a bit.

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

Yup...they make those for the 6054 bulbs too. They are worth 500 for the set... Thats two lights Im pretty sure with all the ballasts that you need.

Thats the only bugger with them...is they arent exactly visibly appealing to most.

Ive had posts like this one deleted over on tech because a sponser sells drop in H4 HID conversions...and I just dont think they work well. So I offer my .02 cents like Im about to do now, and it disappears. haha

If you want HIDs... You either have to spend the money on a premade unit...or spend about 100 bucks and get a set of projectors, and make your own. I got a full set of FX-35 projectors WITH bulbs for $40 shipped off ebay. If you have alittle creativity and alittle bit of fab ability, you can make a set. Its not hard. But slapping a set of HID bulbs into some H4 conversion housings just isnt the way to do it.

If you want those style of housings, with the black background and the little lens, then fine. You wont be TOO bad with regular halogen bulbs in them. But they will still throw light everywhere but where you want/need it.

Works great for me, I put HIDs in "E" code housings.

Not all cars with HIDs have projectors, and not all projectors are HIDs.

Are you saying the above headlights will have tons of glare?

If so would I just keep H4's in there or change them out for something else to reduce glare? Let me know as I have all winter to save for a headlight upgrade and might go the way of the low bi-xenon and high diamond cut. Thanks

I agree that not all cars with HIDs have projectors. But those cars without them produce glare. And its annoying. Lexus comes to mind...I think they have an option on one of their cars for non projector HIDs. One was behind me the other night and they were tossing light off all over the place. I dont recall one non-projector HID set up that wasnt atleast alittle blinding compared to a halogen bulb in the same housing. But...Im not trying to be Mr. Know It All here... If there is a combo that works great! Ide like to know about it!

I HAVE heard of people using "E" code housings with some sucess, but those people all reported the occasional flashing from another driver. So I just assumed those were glare prone also. Maybe the bulbs are different for your style housing??? Anyway you can post up some beam shots at night?

But the "diamond" cut conversion that float around ebay for what seems to be a steal definetly throw light every which way.

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

Im pretty sure those are good to go. I think those are real projector assemblies in the low beam housings... See how its sealed off so light is only coming through the projector? Thats how they work. And it seems like a pretty good kit.

What makes those fleebay housings crappy, is the HID bulb hardly goes through the "projector" lens. It just bounces all around it. Yes some comes through it..but a lot of it goes out the sides and produces the glare.. Ill try to find some good pics of what Im hoping my kit will look like when finished...

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

Here... This shows what Im aiming for.

They are FX-35 projectors with the TSX lens swap done, and some modifications to the shields inside. Yes...you can mod the projectors to make them much better... You can also make the auto leveling motors function. So when you go uphill they point down to avoid blinding, and when you go downhill they point up so you can see... Pretty neat when they work.

Notice in this picture how above the cut off there is very little light?? With my HIDs pulled up to my garage like that, the entire area above was lit up with spots of light.

Just wanted to show what you can achieve with true projectors and good bulbs.

P.S.... Sorry again for the hijacks... Hopefully the original poster got the info he was seeking, and is sticking around for the rest of the convo!

Re: 82-92 Camaro Projector Headlights

I know this is an old thread, however I just bought some similar "projectors". These have a led halo. I am going to try some h4 bulbs. If not I will be buying bixenon projectors of Amazon and retro fitting these. I just couldn't pass the offer. They where 45$ shipped for all 4. With the bixenon I will have all 4 as low/ high beams
