4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
Wasn't too bad of a job. More involved that the 4th gen wing install, but I'm liking the mirrors!

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
Love em, how usable are they??? I mean do you still have a decent field of view out of them intalling them up there, and do you have any pictures of the inside. Did you change that filler panel? More details please, this is something i've thought about doing...

I personally like the stockers better, but they fit alright. Loving the 4th gen spoiler though

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
Sorry...Forgot to add my pics of it step by step.
Photobucket of pics
They actually provide s SLIGHTLY bigger field of view, but nothing spectacular. When you see the pics of the outline, I actually had to move it forward almost 1/2". It turned out, the door glass is under the shiny black rubber, by quite a bit.
I'm gonna paint the inside portion black. The white really stands out from the inside, being bright white.
Now I need the 93-97 style Ram Air hood! Donations welcome....

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
here's a question, maybe i just don't see it, is the interior panel to cover those bolts in the 93+ able to be used in anyway, or do you see a way to cover those bolts other than just painting it all black?? J/w.

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
I'm already running 4 front crosslace wheels, and have 4 reas collecting dust. Anybody need any rear wheels?
----------
I don't have a cover. I'll just paint the nuts black.
There are supposed to be 3, but during the build, I lost one of the nuts, and I only had 6 (3 per side), so I've gotta go buy another nut. I used nylocks, so they couldn't come loose.

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
I just haven't bothered with that yet. I have several projects in the works, so switching the wires, isn't a big priority.
----------
My guess is, you could simply swap the 4th gen mirror mount triangle into a 3rd gen door.

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
I had to finish up a couple details, so I took care of them today.
The 4th gen power mirrors left & right are switched compared to 3rd gens. Meaning, on the center console controls, left moved it right...right moved it left.
But the plugs themselves are IDENTICAL. So, I pulled the wires from the plug, blue & white, & witched them in the plug. NO cutting. NO splicing. Just changed where the wires connect.
Now, left is left & right is right. Up was already up, down was already down. I had to drill one more big hole, for the wiring to fit through, but it is DONE! Well, I might get some 4th gen bolt covers for the inside, to cover the bolt heads & wiring.

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
Yeah, we're building more, We're taking pre-pays, minimum 10 to get it started, and we just hit 10. So send in your order! They are going WAY faster than the first time. Again, we're doing a batch of 20, and are half sold-out, as of today, with 4 M.O. in the mail, leaving 6 STS units left..
But chances are, after Dec. 31, I won't betaking Paypal, or adding $2 to cover my Paypal fee.

I have one of those I have been trying to sell..... I did not want to ship it though, I suppose I could build a crate if you wanted to handle the shipping end.......
I am liking the mirrors on the car though, I may consider doing that when I paint mine

Just messing with ya man, mirrors look sweet. I'm thinking of hitting a local j/y this weekend in search of the g/p mirrors. If I find a set,I'll let ya know the initial fitment and what it will take to make them fit if any mods needed.

Any chance you could take a pic from the front of the car. I want to see how far out the mirrors come from the body.
Thanks

Re: 4th gen TA mirrors on my 87 GTA
Those actually look alright. I didnt think the "roundish" 4th gen would fit on a more "edged" 3rd gen, but i guess the mirrors are round to begin with so.....
I can tell the paint doesnt match, but other than that they look like they "belong".
Question: Maybe i missed this i glanced over the thread quickly, but what did you do to the 3rd gen holes in the door? Looks like you plugged em up with something, but it looks pretty flawless.... Just curious.

I like the way they mount to the black instead of the metal of the door. Reality is, they are only maybe 1/2 wider, same height, so the proportions are good. They do seem more "angled" & match the 4th gen wing good.
They were red....I did a quickie paint job, to hold them over until a full paint job can be done.
As for the holes in the doors, to mount the stock mirrors....I was hoping nobody would notice..
The stock mirror was busted by hitting a deer. That area of the door has a few waves in it.
It's white decal vinyl, like for signs. That's what I've done for years, so I simply cut off a piece & covered the holes, to prevent rain from getting in. Nobody notices from more than 5ft away.

Actually i didnt notice, i was just curious because it looks so subtle. More intuition, because i know they were supposed to be there, but i didnt see any holes. almost like the holes were never there. But now that i went back, i was able to see it in ONE of the pix only
Nice work.
Do you plan to weld them up in future or...?

Yeah....Half of doing them that way was because of the welding needed, the waves needing fixed, the paint looks good in the pics but....
Half because....If I didn't like it, I could put stock mirrors back on.

thats a pretty good and effective idea for a temp. fix.
Can't even notice it in the pics. All this time,I thought you welded up that area and painted it! Haha!

I've thought about playing around with faux carbon fiber parts...Like the hood. BUT, it only comes in 15" width vinyl so.....Hoods too wide.

That would take some impossible seam matching though huh?I mean 15" wide!
Don't think you could pull that off very easily!LOL!

IIRC, solid plastic but a very thick & dense plastic.
I just drilled the 3 mounting bolt holes, then Dremeled out enough recess for the mount to fit in. Everything is still in place & nothing has fallen out after what? 2 years? 2.5 yrs?
