Low volume when cold outside

I don't drive my car very often in the mornings, but a few weeks ago I ventured out early on a 35 degree Saturday morning. The volume on the radio was low, even when I turned it up. I thought it may have been a abd connection with the faceplate. So I took it off and reattached it and had no improvement. When the car warmed up after 15-20 minutes, the volume came up to where it should be. It sounds as if the rear speakers are 'off' and the fronts are the ones that are on, but only at minimal volume.

It is a Pioneer 3600 with Pioneer 6x9 and 4x6 speakers.

My dad has the same radio in his Vette (but with Infiniti speakers) and said he left his car out the other nite and got in the next morning, he had the same problem. So I don't think it is just my unit (or the speakers).

Does the unit just need to warm up? If so why and what can I do to prevent it from 'freezing'? I have only had one other aftermarket radio in a car before, so I am not real up to speed on this.

Thanks.

It should only take 5 seconds for all the outputs to work on that thing. Take it back, it needs to be fixed. BUT, let the service provider know it only happens when it’s vary cold.

Could be.
The thing to do in this case is to pull the HU out and use a DMM to check the resistance of the loads (speakers). Each one, and make sure they're all at 4 ohms. You my see a little less then 4 ohms, but not much. If all good there, it's normal. The amp IC and power supply will get hot. How hot is subjective. Check the loads, if there good it's normal.
