Replacing Front Speakers-Opinions needed on Affordable Replacement

Hey ya'll...new to the 'boards...need some input.

My need for excessively loud music has finally caught up with the factory speakers (sad day, sad day) and although I love the sound of a good exhaust I'm in need of my music. As such, I have to find replacement speakers and if there is one thing I know squat about...it's car audio.

SO, I'd appreciate some suggestions on what to put in her so I can get back to my old ways. My limitations are cash-flow and I don't want to go so low in price that I have horrid sound...so I figured at least one of you out there would have a decent recommendation or at least direction to send me in.

Anything is appreciated...I'm still running the factory radio if that needs to be known...

Re: Replacing Front Speakers-Opinions needed on Affordable Replacement

I'm in the same boat, my stock bose system has finally started giving out on me. I just bought a pair of 4X6 infiniti speakers for the dash board, from what I've read they oughta fit. Changing out speakers hasn't been incredibly complicated in my experience, its just a matter of making sure I've got the right wires in the right places. If anybody knows anything I don't as far as install goes and whether I'm overlooking any important details please let me know.

As far as your install goes, do you have the factory stereo unit in the dash or have you upgraded? If not, I can't help, I bought my 92 with an aftermarket stereo already installed.
If you do have aftermarket, all you need is some speaker wire, make sure you've got the right wiring harness for your stereo, then splice the wires and run them to the speaker ports. There are a variety of ways to splice the wires, you can solder them together, which provides the best connection; you can also buy plastic connectors that you either crimp over the wire or screw the wire into. Most speakers you buy these days come with mounting kits for the car you are installing them in. Putting the speakers in is a matter of having the right size and screwing them in.
On my car the the entire dash board comes off to access the speakers under it. The dash should be able to fir 4" and 4X6" speaker sizes. The speakers in the B-pillars are 6X9", and the ones in the trunk are 5 1/4" i believe. Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong. The B-pillars interior panel is removable to access the speakers, and I don't remember how to take out the trunk speakers.
You can also buy kits for installing speakers in the footwells, but I don't know much about it.

Re: Replacing Front Speakers-Opinions needed on Affordable Replacement

Hey, thanks a lot for the response! I was pretty sure my thread was doomed to be ignored...

Unfortunately my set-up is all stock...just haven't had the money to put into the speakers and over time they've degraded to the point where I really need to replace them. I know that I'll need 4x6's in the front (thanks for the other sizes, I hadn't looked into them yet) but after looking at some of them people have given mixed reviews on certain brands, types, etc...

I'm pretty sure a couple of my buddies could help me get the change out done...it's just a matter of figuring out what to replace the factory speakers with.

I'd look at the 4x6 Infinities. I've heard them and looked at them before. They were $129.99 for the pair at Cartoys. I hadn't shopped around for them yet as I've only just started looking around. They sounded good and can be amplified or not. Even when not amplified you can actually hear them. The problem with our cars is that the front speakers are often inaudible thanks to the placement of the 6x9s.

Speaker sound is very personal. Depends on the type of sound you like (up front, laid back, etc) and of course budget. Also most 5 1/4" will fit in the dash with a little work.

Here are a few suggestions to start with
