89 Camaro CD Player Value?

Hello all, I'm new to the list but have been looking on here for a few years now for the occasional misc. technical question and classifieds. Couple of quick questions, I have recently seen 2 factory CD players for my Camaro on eBay. One was ending tonight and I was too reluctant to pull the trigger on buying because I have no idea what these things are worth and don't want to waste $ on a paper weight. Also, when looking through other posts I saw that these units were also put in other GM products, is there anyway to tell if the unit is Camaro specific? It also seems like the CD function is not the most reliable, is that an easily fixed item? Auction for the other unit ends towards the end of this week so any advise soon would be awesome! Thanks all in advance!!!

The early ones in all GM cars were prone to malfunction. I would get one of the newer ones from another gm. You can plug and play all the way to 2003.

I am trying to keep the car specific to the year though is the only problem. The one on eBay now has a starting bid of $75 but looks extremely clean and supposedly it functions properly.

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

I understand. Look here https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...911-post7.html

Similar era and looks factory. Also don't pay to much for a factory deck. I have got them in perfect working order from the yard for $20 A 1989 model may be an exception. I opted out of a cd player and installed a AUX port in a factory tape deck with EQ.

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

Thanks, I've been scouring the forum here and seen lots of posts about the factory CD players in general. One post said a guy paid $500 (which I am sure is the exception) for one and others in the $100-200 range. Those posts mostly from 2-5 years ago though. I know on eBay you can get some steals sometimes but also get burned. This is the posting I am looking at currently...

http://m.ebay.com/itm/231209688467?nav=SEARCH

Seems legit, he/she has a pic if the window sticker and build sheet along with it. The previous one I was looking at had considerable more fading/wear.

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

The cd player The Wraith posted is the higher end option. Looking at my owners manual it shows the base fm stereo, fm with cassette and the cd player. It is hard to find without wear and you will pay on ebay for it. I looked at my rpo codes and mine had the factory radio with cassette. I then mod it for mp3 input. I rip my cds to mp3 files so I hardly listen to cds.

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

I was thinking of adding the AUX output to this one if I am able to aquire it. There is a place here in town that does it fairly cheap.

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

Buicks and Caddys used a similar CD player to those pictured above. Any 'make' other than Chevy might use diffeent color backlighting or a slightly different faceplate/buttons.

If your thinking abouit an AUX connection you should consider contacting this TGO member: red88tagta If he's still tinkering with decks than he's the guy to talk too.

I just offered this CD player to another member here today for $225. IMO it's the best looking stock DELCO CD player that can be installed in a Thirdgen Camaro; originally came from a 92-93(?) GMC Tyhpoon.

I have that player but from a bonneville so it lights up in Pontiac red. I have seen a few of those in the yard in various GMs.

I have at least 3 or 4 of these exact same buick cd players.Mine came from roadmasters and lesabres. And I do agree that they are the best looking factory cd players that gm made

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

Have you guys ran into issues using these Cadillac/buick tape decks? I got a deal on 2 caddie cassette decks with eq from a 93-94 deville. They look like radios from the 80s so they match the thirdgen well. They work great but the backlighting does not light up. Plugging a different delco unit in and the backlighting works fine.

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

Only reason to rock a factory deck is for the factory look... period.

Now that these cars are getting collectible I think you'll see a lot of stock (inferior) parts going up quite a bit!

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

I think with good speakers the factory decks sound just fine. But then again I am not out to "boom boom" the streets with ridiculous amounts of bass and a hiphopyoudontstop crap.

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

To each their own, but the factory deck is so underpowered for aftermarket speakers... plus the distortion levels are awful on those old Delco decks.

Like I said, if you want to look original, go for it. If you want to use the radio for more than background ambiance... go aftermarket!

Re: 89 Camaro CD Player Value?

You can get a PAC SNI-15 and add any amp you like to your factory radio.

This is true. I have a module for that here. I paid like $8 for it.

That makes sense.

Crime sucks, that's for sure.

I'm with you there, that stuff is all terrible. Not all people who replace factory radios are after excessive "noise".

That is a less than ideal way to get GOOD sound, but I'm glad that works for you guys (no sarcasm intended, it's honest)
