Stock radio ?
Hey guys. I have a stock radio with cassette In my 89 Formula and I would like to install a stock cd player with Red back lighting that will fit without much modification, I don't mind if it's from a forth gen as long as it will fit. Using the existing wiring a plus but not necessary.

Re: Stock radio ?
im sure it will fit in the hole but the plugs are different, i think any pontiac except the small cars with the two piece radios would work till 2000 or so when they started the "network" security stuff would be fine. i would go to the yard and grab a radio and as much wire as i can with the plugs. then get wiring diagrams and solder the wires in.

Re: Stock radio ?
I figured you could do something like that but aren't the codes vin # specific or can they do it just by the radio information. Are there any third gen cd players that would use our existing wiring ?

i think cd players started becoming an option in the late 80's on thirdgens. not sure which plug they would have though they also changed the plug style about the same time depending on model.
personally if i was going for the stock look(i never would bother), i would go for the later ones.the stock stuff breaks all the time and the later the better. the little bit of soldering you would have to do is not a big deal to me. i have a 98 bonnie sse that my wife drives, and wants to keep original, its got the high option bose stuff and it still sound like crap and i have had the hu apart several times.

Re: Stock radio ?
Looks like in 1988 is when they changed the wiring. I plan on getting a real nice double din but can't afford it right now. So until then I need to get rid of the stock cassette so I will be heading to the salvage yard soon and wanted some ideas on which stock player would fit and which one sounds and looks the best...

Re: Stock radio ?
you can get a real decent sounding hu, that will last many years, with all the new features, mounting brackets, harness, etc, as long as its single din for like 120-130 from sonic electronics. i wouldnt waste my time or money on any gm radio. even the ones on the newer cars i have suck, they have no base, no volume, and are poor quality.

Re: Stock radio ?
they charge way too much for double din;
in my yukon all i do is listen to the radio because i dont drive it far, i bought this and with just the stock speakers it sounds a hundred percent better.

i put this in my monte; which has everything replaced, two amps, subs, etc.. it has every adjustment imaginable, and has all the features sound quality wise.
