Edelbrock makes their 1406 carb. 600 cfm electric choke.. It's about $250.00

There is only one replacement for a computer controlled q-jet - a computer controlled q-jet. If you are in an emissions inspection/testing area, you will fail with anything else.

If you are not in an emissions inspection/testing area, you can make other carbs work - but the one mentioned above will not bolt to your intake manifold. If you get an older q-jet or new Edelbrock q-jet, it will not have the computer control features, so you will need a mechanical/vacuum advance distributor, non-CC AIR and EGR valves, and some way to make your torque converter clutch lock up (if auto). Also, your SES light will stay on without the CC inputs, so you'll need to take out the bulb.

Quite honestly, it will probably be easier and cheaper to figure out why your q-jet is acting up and fix it. If you have to deal with emissions, you have no other choice.

hey five7kid, do you just cut and paste this response or actually retype it every time? I always see this same question asked.

There were just enough differences between this and the last person who asked to type it all out again. Perhaps an FAQ on this forum would help.

Not to flame, but the message is, "Do a search before you post a topic."

CHP is doing a series on an '87 LG4 Camaro that they're going to try to get 4th gen performance out of, while remaining emissions legal. I, for one, am looking forward with interest how they'll handle the carb & intake.

Are you serious? LG4 ---> 4th gen performance? I am hoping that is the 6-cylinder version and not the SS... I will also keep a lookout for that issue.

They're serious, but they'll probably use a 350. It sounded like they'll stick with the CC carb, though.

They're calling the series "My Generation Camaro".

CHP is still using the 305 in the August issue. Biggest additions appear to be an Edelbrok manifold and Corvette dual snorkel outfit this time around, with some exhaust work, timing and carb monkeying in the first column. Now they are into the 16s.

Their first story was what inspired me to get a 3rd gen Camaro. I used to have a 68 Camaro about 25 years ago and sometimes still dream of driving it around, as if it were my personal fighter plane. (Blame that on the original Star Wars, which came out about that time

Anyway, I just LOVE my "new" 86 Camaro Sport Coupe, with its hearty little 305 4bbl, 4 speed Auto, air conditioning, power windows, etc. It is running really well now and is mechanically very sound. Only thing is the rough idle when it's in gear at a stop light during the rain. Some kind of ignition leak I guess.

Not to be confused with California Highway Patrol - That's CHiPs.
