1405 Edelbrock Tv cable and throttle cable questions.

I just recently started to finish up my 89' camaro which I've been getting re-assembled for the last 8 months (Yes I know slowly -_-) I have a couple questions and my first question Iis this; I have a 1405 manual choke 600CFM Edelbrock and I am wondering if I need a Geometry bracket for my TV cable or will the kickdown kit edelbrock makes work the same? This is my first project I've ever done and I want to do it right.

Second; My throttle cable isn't quite out as far as it should be to get "full throttle" is there a way to adjust the cable so I don't have to but another bracket for it, I purchased both edelbrock pieces for the kickdown cable and the throttle cable but it just doesn't seem right to me.

Appreciate anything to help me finish this thing!!

I've heard this bracket is the correct one for my 700R4 is this right? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-700203/?rtype=10

Re: 1405 Edelbrock Tv cable and throttle cable questions.

The geometry correctors that bolt on the throttle arm correct the stud geometry, but you also need the bracketry to get the cable mounting point correct.

Re: 1405 Edelbrock Tv cable and throttle cable questions.

So the bracket fixed the distance form the Carb for the TV cable? Just making sure I'm understanding you correctly

The correct bracket sets the cable mount at the correct distance from the shaft and at the correct height.

Re: 1405 Edelbrock Tv cable and throttle cable questions.

This is a pic of what you ordered. It took 3 months for summit to send me mine, they where on back order so you might check and make sure they arnt still on back order. Any who you cant just run that tv adj. only. I had to use this other bracket, I think its a holley part but im not sure it might be edelbrock but i had to use it to get the angle and the right pull on the cable. i couldnt get the stock one to work, you might get away with it but i ended up needing that extra bracket.

I actually got the part in the mail today Uhmm question though, if the bracket isn't working the way it's suppose to what are some symptoms I should look out for? Obviously besides waiting for my 3rd and 4th to burn up lol

Re: 1405 Edelbrock Tv cable and throttle cable questions.

I killed a 700 before i figured out how to get it perfect... i would let some one who knows what they are doin do it. Dont just go by how the book says to do it, it doesnt always work. All i can tell you is start tight on the cable and loosen it up to where the shift points are right.

This doesn't look too good to me! Tell me if I'm wrong but it just doesn't, what should my next approach be? I removed the cable off the bracket after the picture was taken.

Re: 1405 Edelbrock Tv cable and throttle cable questions.

That doesn't look to good at all!... You need the cable to pull out straight on 0% to 60%+ throttle ( = that's near dead flush with the crab bracket that the TV cable clips on to)... there are also many helpful things online that will show you how to set your TV cable, like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMSUMpKhcf0

These are not the best pics but look close (also don't get confused with the return spring) If your interested i can tell you all the things i have on mine to make it work and even some other cheaper alternatives...

Dont run that. You are going to need that edelbrock bracket.

Just remember start tight on that cable. Its better for it to shift late than early and slip.

I have the geometry bracket on already, what bracket exactly will I need to get the tv cable dead even with the peg?

Re: 1405 Edelbrock Tv cable and throttle cable questions.

Unfortunately the last post to this was 7½ yrs ago... memory may have faded since then...

All of those parts - new TV cables, brackets, the "geometry corrector" linkage piece - are widely available. A dealership, rockauto.com, or other place that sells replacement parts will have that. Anybody that sells Edelbrock carbs will have the other parts; Summit/Jegs or other mail-order speed supply, your local speed shop, maybe even local or chain parts stores esp the larger outlets. It's not something that's hard to find.

It's usually best to stick with stock stuff as much as possible, except for the "geometry corrector" which MUST be tailored to the specific carb. Most of the aftermarket brackets are TERRIBLE and should only be used when there is NO alternative. It is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL that the TV cable's movement replicate the stock behavior; the stud MUST be a certain distance from the center of the throttle shaft, and it MUST start out in the right place (somewhat behind directly below the center of that shaft, maybe 20° or so) and end up in the right place (maybe 30° from straight forward) when the throttle is wide open. That cable is one of the only 2 ways the transmission "knows" what's going on in the outside world; it tells the trans the driver's demands, which the more the driver demands (the more the throttle is open) the more the trans has to react to heavier load. The other "eye" it has is the governor, which tells it how fast the car is going. Those 2 things together let the trans adjust internal pressures (higher during heavier loads, to clamp the clutches tighter), shift points (leaves it in lower gear up to a higher vehicle speed when driver demand is high), and shift timing (quicker and firmer at higher loads). Without those 2 things being RIGHT, the transmission will likely not live long.

I bought the Sonnax AS5-05K on Ebay and it works well with my Edelbrock 1406. I also bought and used the Edelbrock 8032 throttle bracket..although it might not be necessary depending on what intake manifold you're using.
