3510 Pounds....
Hey Everyone,
Just got my car weighed. The car came in 3510lbs. Is this about right for a 91 Convertible? Look at my mod list for more information.
By the way... This weight was with
-Spare & Jack Removed
-1/2 Tank of Gas
-No Amplifiers or Sub
-No Me!

Re: 3510 Pounds....
3350 race weight(me in it)
3420 with nitrous kit installed.
No clue what it weighted stock. I've taken a LOT out. HVAC, AC, rear and pass. seat, added rollbar, race rims are 80lbs less than street setup. Aluminum engine parts, powerglide trans is lighter...
I'd guess I was at 3700+ stock.

Re: 3510 Pounds....
That sounds about right, the Verts weigh slightly more than a hard top because of the structural pieces they riveted to the bottom of the car, and the other things they added to the car. Really what you would remove from a Hard top the heaviest thing would be the Hatch... The T-top cars even weigh slightly more than a hard top car...

Re: 3510 Pounds....
I know this the 'vert board, but why is my hardtop listed as 4069 lbs in the door jamb decal, yet all these 'verts, which should be heavier, are weighing quite a bit LESS?
I mean, I have the light weight crosslace wheels, no t-tops....I should go get my car weighed...I think the MSRP decal is WAY off.

Re: 3510 Pounds....
I need to weigh my car again. Alot has changed since I weighed in at 3510. Took out the L03/A4 and put in an LT1/T56, !AC, !AIR, !EVAP, !EGR, but then I put 17x9.5 ZR1's on it. I think I am going to get a front axle and rear axle weight too. I am interested to see what my F/R ratio is.

Re: 3510 Pounds....
The GROSS Weight is different than the Actual weight. The GVW (4000#) on the drivers door jamb is the car totally loaded with 4 adults, a full tank of gas, and luggage... The actual weight of the car is a lot less.

Whoah........ Who converted your 85????????
They must have used a lot more reinforcement than ASC did.

Re: 3510 Pounds....
Just got the car re-weighed.
Came in at 3400lbs even. So thats a 110lb difference. I was hoping for more. The T56 and 17" wheels probably hurt me quite a bit.

Re: 3510 Pounds....
Hmm, What does the bracing look like compared to the ASC ones? I've always wondered what everyone else used, but have just never seen one in real life.

Re: 3510 Pounds....
Since ASC did so many Convertibles for GM I would imagine they probably had the whole thing down better than some companies that only did a couple of models like Hi-Line and Matrix3 for example. We have to remember that GM would have wanted the lightest conversion possible for every 10% in weight savings = 8% better fuel milage, all other things being equal.

Re: 3510 Pounds....
I hear ya, I'd just like to see what other companies did for reinforcement. Does anyone know of any pics anywhere on the web?
Also, has anyone ever stitch welded their ASC reinforcements? If so, did it make a difference????
I'm thinking about doing this and putting in a couple of small bars (like spohns y-bars) from the ASC reinforcements, to the alston sfc's.
