Re: yeah

You need to us a collector car guide. Hemmings is a good resource. I would have a stack of receipts and all the pricing guides that I could find otherwise to contest that evaluation!

Re: yeah

thanks for the advice badnblk. i'm still digging all the information i found when i first got the car. the problem with that idea benc1, is that, there are none of them in my area of any third gen for sale to compare to. ccc one, the company that fred loya used for the vehicle valuation of my car found the closest ones in las vegas, and some town in illinoise... im in colorado springs.

Re: yeah

wtf...$1600.....that is a ****king slap in the face! I would chop their nutts off! Unfortunately, this is all too real. As was said before, these cars need to be insured as classics. I have mine insured through Haggerty with a guaranteed payout of $40k if it ever gets totaled/stolen...etc.
I hope everyone that reads this will change their insurance ASAP...especially if you have alot of money tied up in your car!

Re: yeah

When mine was wrecked about 10 years ago, I was offered to total the car for a payout of about $1,800. Since the car had been crashed into while it sat in a parking lot and I was the victim, I proceedes to explain (vigorously) to the insurance adjuster that:
1. This car was not just some old Chevy (being an IROC AND convertible) it could be considered a "collectible" (adding a little flair )
2. Since I was the victim here, I demanded they payout enough for my car to be restored to the state it was in before their client wrecked it.
My payout ended up being close to 5k.

Re: yeah

To protect yourself, it is always good to state a value for a car, sometimes they require an appraisal, if that is the case, ask around at the shows for a good one... usually $50 - $100 and its done, then you can ask what they are going for, not some depreciation scale calculation.

My 87 is valued at $25,000
89 350 Vert at $15,000
Wife's LB9/M5 at $5000.
