coolant hose will not seal, keeps leaking
i purchased an aftermarket overflow tank with a 1/4" smooth fitting on it, not barbed, and i cant get the 1/4" hose to seal on it, it just keeps leaking slowly. i've have issues like this in the past with various other cooling lines, and an easy solution for it was to put an extra hose clamp on it, but this thing will not seal even with 2 hose clamps on it, and i tighten them really good. you can even twist the hose a little bit and tell its not tight, i wish it was barbed so it would fit better. anyone have any tips on what to do to make this seal?

Smaller hose? If you can still move it tightened down is the hose too big?

If the hose is too big yu can buy a smaller hose or you can make up the diference with Teflon.

Does the hose slide on and off without resistance? If so, it's too big.
You could use a smaller hose an a light film of vaseline, makes installation and especially removal much easier!

i was using fuel line hose, i got the idea to try thinner walled hose cuz it might seal better with less rubber that the hose clamp needs to compress , so i picked up some 1/4" windshield washer hose and it seems to be holding up fine, not leaking. thanks for the help.

that fuel line tubing doesn't work on coolant hoses - whatever it's made out of is not compatible with coolant. i had a similar problem years ago, except that it just kept cracking and leaking...

Plus coolant is way hotter than you fuel and for sustained periods
