Are these Water pumps any good? Couple choices.

350 Chevy, Going to redoing top End new Aluminum Heads, cam Aluminum Radiator. Right now I have a GM Water pump Nothing wrong with it works fine and is not that old.
My Car tends to run a bit hot, I have Air dam and have tried 160,180 and 195 Stats.
I am going to install Aluminum Radiator and Thought about changing Water pump also.
Are these any better then the Stock GM Pump? Out of those three I am leaning toward the Proform, More for looks then anything.
I WOuld Like a Edelbrock Pump but The price is a bit much just Prob for the name. Thanks

Re: Are these Water pumps any good? Couple choices.

What do you consider hot?

Chances are you will not see a drop in temps from replacing a working gm pump.

Pulley size and engine rpm have a much greater effect on the amount the pump flows.

There are "hi performance" pumps that are designed to eliminate cavitation and such, which may be of help on an engine that spends most of it's time at higher rpm's, but thatsprobably not the case with yours.

If the car in fact does run hot, then we need to figure out why and address that.

If you judt want to shed a few pounds, which is good, go for it and get whatever aluminum pump you like.

If you want the best in mechanical pumps, check out Stewarts offerings.

SO One like this

Oh the second one I listed in start of thread?

My Current Radiator has quiet a bit of build up inside, I am hoping switching to a new Aluminum Rad and new hoses will help.

I do have my air dam, I am running a 650 Holley Ultra DP with a MSD Billet HEI Dist, ( that is not listed in sig below ) Car seems to be running hotter this summer, The car did sit for about 5 or 6 years, I did replace the coolant and the only change when I put it back on the road was the Carb and Dist, the car used to always run under 200 Deg now it gets way up on the gauge.

Replace Radiator, that will probably cure it. Be sure to flush the engine too.

Re: Are these Water pumps any good? Couple choices.

If you're worried about flow, changing the pulley will help with your stock pump. March sells some high flow water pummp pulleys (I think they are smaller than the stock one to allow for a greater pump rpm). But the radiator is where I would start if you're changing that anyway. Also, it's easier to swap a pulley than a pump once the engine is installed and you can see whether the radiator is enough.

Re: Are these Water pumps any good? Couple choices.

Timing has a huge effect on engine temps as well.
Since the problem began after the dist swap, you might want to double check it. Though if the radiator is full of crap like you say, that alone may be your problem.

If the radiator isn't working well, a higher flow water pump will not "fix" the problem.

EMP is the old Stewart company. Stewart himself sold the company and moved on.

That one, if it's the correct rotation for your particular accessory setup, should be fine.

I have a standard three belt set up, V Belts on all but the alternator which has a wider ribbed belt. WHat rotation do I need?

Standard rotation.
Serpintine setups use the reverse rotation pump.
