Hi, I need to replace my original heater hoses. There is one that comes from the pump and goes to the heater core and there is a smaller hose that tees off and goes the intake manifold. I cannot find the reason for the smaller hose. Do you think I can eliminate it? See photo.
when you replace hose see if the intake fitting can be removed its pot metal and will probably crumble! so be warned - my 87 ended up towed to dealer for warranty intake replacement Later I replaced with brass fitting, if you dont it could leave you high and dry at worst possible moment my .02c

I was looking at the manifold today, Its not going to come off. I am installing a new manifold, and will do brass.
Thanks for your input,
