Hey 3rd Gents, i wanna start off by saying this hasn’t been a problem in the past, My 92 305 tpi camaro is overheating really badly and the radiator hose is swelling up and is really hard (pressure) i thought my thermostat wasn’t opening so i replaced that and i have the same problem still, i just don’t know why my top radiator hose is swelling up so bad, i have coolant in it, fans are running, but i still overheat, the only time it’s not is when i’m driving over 30. i did change out the water pump and got rid of my smog pump, i changed the belt route, do 92 camaros have reversed water pumps ? help me guys ik y’all have the answer.

i changed the water pump, it is running reverse tho, but they same some do that

I'm not positive what you mean by "running reverse", but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess you put the wrong rotation water pump in. If so, that will NOT work right.

Also not sure how much radiator hose swelling we are talking about here, but that is usually an indication you need a new hose, regardless of possible overheating.

If you put a pump in that's for a 92 then it should be the correct rotation which is reverse direction of the crankshaft. The belt on the crankshaft should have the ribbs (serpentine belt) against the pulley, and the back side (smooth side) against the water pump pulley.

92 had serp belt so it is reverse.

If its getting hard / pressurized a lot you COUDL have a bad head gasket....


thats probably worse case scenario though.

If you changed the belt routing, you may have inadvertently changed the rotation of the water pump, If the serp isn't routed the original way around the water pump pulley. All serpentine systems use reverse rotation water pumps, compared to v-belt set-up. This is different from the LT1's reverse flow systems that people sometimes confuse with reverse rotation, but thats a horse of a different color.
The hardness may just be due to the extreme water temp/pressure in the system which is noted by the overheating.
Also if you got rid of the smog pump, did you use a shorter belt? Due to the rerouting it could be loose Where is the tensioner position?

The smog pump was removed, I replaced the radiator to a three core. I have also done a hole flush on the system. I see water movement when I take the radiator cap off and start the car, I’m scratching my head at this cause it is my daily and it’s kind of hard to daily when it’s overheating, my last thought could be the water pump that doesn’t make sense when there’s movement when I take the cap off.I’m scratching my head at this cause it is my daily and it’s kind of hard to daily when it’s overheating, my last thought could be the water pump that doesn’t make sense when there’s movement when I take the cap off
