leaking from behind the water pump

leaking from behind the water pump
I found a leak and thought it was from the lower hose, water pump. But it is coming from behind the water pump, What is that? A spacer? does it have a name, and a gasket that I can order? Thanks for any help.

I think it is just a cover that is removed to access the impeller when these are rebuilt. I have never seen that gasket sold as a replacement but I am sure if you searched you could find one but why? You should just replace the pump. You have to remove the pump anyway so it would be nonsensical to replace the gasket on the old pump.

timing cover to block gasket is leaking-decent amount of dissassembly required for a proper fix or you could try a pour-in leak sealer,,, Edit-could be seeping coolant into the engine, contaminating the oil-so really should have the proper fix done, Good time to check condition of WP,timing chain, crank damper,

I've never worked on one of those 6-cyl motors, or really even seen one, that I know of. But that photo reminds me of Pontiac V8s and their timing cover. This same sort of thing was real common on those, too.
Pretty much everything will have to come off of the front of the motor to fix it. Accessories, crank damper, hoses, coolant, etc. Don't know if timing sets are an issue in those 6-cyls (I know NOTHING WHATSOEVER about them, besides ... well, let's not go there), butt if that might fail in the foreseeable future, now would be the time to address it.

can clean and paint as desired-outer ring coming loose off the rubber is the main thing that goes wrong.
