Burn1, from Moates
After what seems like forever, I varied from using my Pocket Programmers, and bought a Burn1.
Over the years, I've just flat worn out some of the PP, and lately the 29C256s were intermittent in if they'd program correctly, ie lots of checksum errors.
So I ordered a Burn1 a couple days ago, and received it today, and installed it.
geesh, talk about easy to use, and easy to follow instructions.
I did a few of the EEPROMS, that I was ready to throw away, and they programmed just fine with the Burn1. I probably could have bought 2-3 of the Burn1s for what I've thrown away in chips, that I thought were bad. <sigh>
Good work, Mr Moates!.

I've used the Burn1 and the Autoprom. Both being USB and they're both so good that I've just been giving my PP to guys to try before they buy. I've got no need for it and honestly, the biggest difference I noticed is the lack of cables. The parallel PP had that thick ribben cable that was hard to plug and unplug without tearing the ribbon off the connector. Then when you wanted to program a chip you needed to find power from somewhere else. My ac adaptor broke so I had been using a RadioCrack universal 9vdc step down. It was a MESS. Now it's just 1 USB cable that unplugs from both devices making it fast to setup and take down. If I had my way everything would be wireless
If Craig is reading this, I'd like to ask for a software freature. It might just be me but having been working with 50/50 AT29c256/27SF512 I keep forgetting to erase the eeproms. Any chance you could have a check box to auto erase before programming? Then have an autoverify after programming?

Dang Grumpy............I can't believe I had something you didn't have.
but...........yeah it's very ez to use. Just 1 usb cable and it's portable with your laptop that allows you to burn everywhere. I wished that all this cool stuff was around years ago. Almost don't need an emulator when the burn1 is so ez and portable.
Craig did his normal stellar job with this unit!

Awesome product, with awesome support. I went to flash my FnB to the latest firmware, and it killed it. Turned out I had the early version... emailed Craig, had a reply within 24 hours, telling me what the problem is, and to send it to him - had a new FnB, flashed to the latest version, sent back 2nd day.
Awesome product, with awesome support.

This unit would help a newcomer with a budget: portable, burns and erases

I got my Burn1 last week. I must say that Craig has done an incredible job w/ it. The software is easy to follow and use, and is extremely quick in comparison to the PP I was using. Very nice Mr. Moates...

i jstu checked htis out on the website, and it looks great!
you will have to excuse my ignorance on this subject, but before i get it i want to make sure this will work for me,
i am completely new to the prom world and really want to learn it.
basically all i have to do, is remove hte chip form my car and plug it in to the burning base. then if i have done certain mods such as a cam, exhasut, or any other thing, i can repgram it usuing htis.. and it comes with all the software i need and everything? also this will work on stock chips from a 92 camaro rs 305tbi correct?
my main reason for all this is lots of plans in the future for this car and i really dont want to have to pay somebody to program the car everytime i change something.
so this adjsuts everything right? spark curves, fuel, etc..??

Start reading the stickies at the top of the board. Lots...if not most of the info you need to get started is right there. Yes, you will have complete control of your ECM once you learn the DIY ropes.

no you wont be able to plug the stock chip into the burner to read it unless you find some type of adapter for it. and if u do find an adapter u will have to have a uv eraser to delete the .bin on the stock chip. if you find an adapter for the stock chip that works in the burner though let me iknow id like to see exactly what code is on my chip w/ out having to trust the stock .bins on the net. thanks

Using a memcal adaptor lets you use a flash or eeprom inplace of the stock eprom. It's a lot easier to spend the $35 for the adaptor and having a stock memcal as backup than trying to unsolder the stock eprom from the memcal. The other option which is very easy is to use a uv eraser and just remove the window on the stock eprom. Using that memcal header I talked about above lets you then plug the whole memcal into your burner and reprogram the uv erased eprom . There are lots of ways to skin a cat... the burn1/memcal adaptor/flash chips are the best bang for the buck.
On a side note, trust the stock bins I sent you in that e-mail. They're all correct.

sorry i just read your post after i put up the pics...my bad so u say i can just remove the plastic holder then?? it wont break the pins. i will have to test the ecm first then i will try that. oh the bins u gave me were made by u from stock chips...i just thought u were the creator of the xdf not the bins.
