changing injector constant, and other newbie questions

I'm working with an AXCN $8d .bin in my swap. just finally got it to test fire on full injection last night after burning a new chip with no VATS whatsoever.

since this is NOT a stock 91 corvette engine (not even a chevy engine...) I know that most of the code will have to be changed. I'm still really, really new at this. like never got past changing fan turn on temp and EGR delete in my previous attempts at tuning. so ive been reading a LOT.

engine has a single plane, 4bbl throttle body, solid roller cam, big heads, etc.

42lb injectors and 43.5psi fuel pressure with vacuum disconnected.

so I'm thinking first step is to change injector constant to 42, from the stock 24lb. what all will the constant change elsewhere? is there any other basic changes I should make when I do this change?

next, I only have one EEPROM. I think it would be money well spent to pick up a handful more. I'm not having any luck though, finding them. anyone have a link to a reputable seller?

lastly, I'm thinking about switching to the super $8d after I get it running and idling reliably, and know I'm on the right track. I'm trying to eliminate variables and only do one thing at a time, like I would when working with a carb. is there a way to copy all the data from the AXCN .bin to the super $8d?

equipment I'm using: moates burn2/aldl cable, hypertech chip adapter with a ZIF socket installed (old lever kind), and tunerpro RT.

thanks guys.

Re: changing injector constant, and other newbie questions

What is your application? When I set mine up i found the best course of action was to make all the chages to the constants to suit the engine initially and then once i had it running i started tweaking and "tuning" from there. My setup is a Pontiac 455 with a single plane, 4bbl throttle body, 33lb/hr injectors and running SAUJP5. I set the injector constant, cylinder displacement, turned off all the stuff for EGR and AIR, turned off VATS, set my fan temps, made sure the ignition SA Latency was correct for the large cap HEI, set the correct offsets for my injectors, set the idle speed i wanted, set the base timing constant where i wanted it, Then hit the key and it lit right off and ran and idled reasonably well considering it was a 350ci tune running a 455. I recommend you just start with the latest SAUJP if that is what you will be running.

Re: changing injector constant, and other newbie questions

its actually a fairly radical small block mopar that im converting to multiport using C4 TPI parts. lays 425 at the rear wheels on pump gas with a victor jr and a 950 carb.

you mentioned injector offset and ignition offset. I have no idea what these are, and where to find the values. any links to good articles/posts on this topic? I know they exist, but im not certain just what they are and what they do.

I can go ahead and switch over to saujp right now, but ive got it starting and idling on the axcn .bin, as that was the closest factory bin to me I could find. how do I transfer all the axcn values over to saujp in tunerpro? I know its probably simple, but its not apparent.

Re: changing injector constant, and other newbie questions

I should have said ignition SA latency not offset, there are few good reads on the subject on this board. And the injector offsets will depend on which injectors you have, if you know the brand and flow rating you can usually find the specs online somewhere, then replace the existing values in the bin. Again it pays in the long run to set this all up before you start tuning the VE and ignition tables. Have you done any actual tuning on the AXCN bin yet? If not just start over, The only way I know to really transfer data is to manually cut and paste it in tunerpro.

Ok. You've convinced me to switch over to saujp. I have gotten the injector data from the manufacturer, and will input that. I will also start reseaching ignition sa latency.

I somehow feel like I have dove into the deep end of this without first learning how to swim.

You might also consider getting the NVSRAM module from moates. its reasonably priced and i find it makes tuning alot quicker because you dont have to pull the prom and re-burn it every time you make a change.

Re: changing injector constant, and other newbie questions

they are am unknown brand I bought off ebay. probably some sort of Chinese knock offs.

they did send me the attached sheet, which doesn't seem to apply to the saujp bin. what am I looking at, and just what should I do with it? saujp goes in .6 volt steps. where this table goes in 1 volt steps.

interpolate between the values. I've even used graph paper before.
