I hate to post this becaue I know ive read about it on here somewhere But I now have this problem and cant seem to find the the thread again.
My problem is my high beam lights start to flicker on and off after about 5-10 mins of being on. My low beams are just fine never have problems with them. Also when the highbeams are doing this the high beam indicater on the dash goes on and off along with it. Any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?
It just does it when on high beams, the alt and bat. are fine. the lows are fine, its jsut when I go to high beam mode after a couple minutes they start going on and off. I wouldnt even know what ground to look for.
Correct, the Hi/Lo beam is on the top left side of the steering column, right by the ignition switch, deep inside the dash.
It helps to drop the steering column a bit to get to it, definitely easier access.
However, the Hi/Lo beam switch has no grounds. It is a simple mechanical switch for the hot lead to the headlights.
The light green wire is the one that supplies power from it to the high beams. You might have a loose connection somewhere and that connection might be arcing, causing the flicker.
The light green wire goes from the Hi/Lo beam switch to the C100 connector on the driver side and from there it travels along the driver side fender to the front of the vehicle.
Do the lights flicker only while driving or even when the car is parked and engine shut off?
Hope this helps.
Lou

Ok, I will try and check that tommarow, once I drop the steering column how hard it it to get to? pretty visible or do I gotta search for it?
so the green wire from the high beam switch goes to the connector to the left of the gauge cluster behind the headlight knob to the headlight switch???
I havent tested it with the car not running, I know it does it in park if its running, but I will see if it does it with the engine turned of with them on.
EDIT : With this problem could it be something with the headlight switch, Like I need to replace it or would you think since the other stuff works its just something with that wire?
Ok last night I noticed that not only the high beams go out but the low beams do too, but only in high beam mode, meaning in normal mode it doesnt do it....Also I drove for a little bit and it started doing it so when i got home I left them on and checked to see if it did it with the engine off, It didnt do it, but i didnt want to sit to long and kill the battery, but as of now I dont think it does.
Havent got a chance to mess with this yet, but my dimmer switch is no longer working, it turns the interior lights either off or on and thats it, also when moving it my headights will go off then back on depending on how i move it. Im thinking my headight switch it possibly bad now. anyone wanna chime in?
I had the exact same issue tonight. Has anyone found the problem? I am sure we all have the same cause........ I will try to check mine later this week, if I locate the problem I'll post it here. If anyone gets to it before me, please post it too. Thanks!
My lights flickered - at first seemed to only be the high beams, but later I noticed it was everything but it was just hard to tell in the city (in the dark country it's easier to see what's flickering). I had my alternater tested first (why? because I was feeling lazy and the parts stores test for free). Alternator was the problem - mine was overcharging and thus making the lights flicker - had receipt even though the alternator was over 1 year old, got a free replacement - problem solved!
Might not be YOUR issue - but it only takes 10 minutes to have it checked, and you get to let someone else do it for free!
Hey I replace the dimmer headlight swich and i continue with the same problem, following the above recommendations i went to test my alternator o sorprice is charging 12 to 13.5 volts but the amps are 17 amps but based in the worker must chage more i will go to a spetialist this weekend and I will let you know.
I have a question all of you, do you have the stock light bulbs? I replace it by a H4 bulb and the problem started

Reason: wrong part name
check c100 connector at pin a2 for voltage (check the side coming from inside.) this is the green wire for the high beams. if you have close to battery voltage there your dimmer switch etc. is fine and that wire is bad. follow it and you'll find some splices. those are most likely your problem. if power side is fine then you have a bad ground and must see the ground distribution for your specific year.
I had a bad ground on my gauge cluster since the PO that installed the overlays grounded them by loosely wrapping the wire around a metal part of the panel that goes above the obd port. Believe it or not this bad ground not even tied into the headlight system would cause the exact same issue for me. Needless to say my wife was a little irritated when the car i just bought lost all headlights at 55mph in the dark and I started screaming profanities in front of my son. Good luck.
My proud Camaro owners and friends I found the root cause for my problem, my problem was the high beam low beam switch it is the parts is attached in the steering wheel column I noted that this pieces has a sealed beam specs and I am using a blue halogen H4 this overheats the switch and start flickering (thanks to BigBadLou) the Solution is: I replaced the switch and I upgrade my head lights inhaling relays and taking the power direct to from the battery and power solve!! See links bellow I hope you this helps you.
Let me add a simple twist to this. My issue is random flickering of my right hi-beam only. No issues with low beam...only when I cut on my brights, the right one will randomly come on, go off. Usually it stays off for a good while, then comes on, back off...totally random. Any ideas? Could a faulty multi-function switch cause this? Or the dimmer switch?

Logically, if the left beam works 100%, then the fault is not in power supply (headlight switch, wire, dimmer switch). The fault is definitely on the right side of the car.
Check the connector on the back of the bulb/light. They tend to come loose. If might be barely on, causing an intermittent contact.
Hope this helps.

funny thing i spent 1 week trying to find out this problem with my 85 TA. it would work fine on low beam but high beams it would flicker and all my gauges would flicker too.i kept on hearing an arcing sound in my headlight switch.next thing it would start smoking.so i unplugged it.realzing there is a short someehere.i looked and looked and looks but couldned find out where it maybe a short.i finally check the harness in the engine bay, next thing you know the harness had a short next to the brake booster.it started a small fire.after the little fire was put out, i repared thew damage wire ,and that fix my problem.hope that helps yall out!!
