Re: wiring question
if you are in a smog state you need to keep it. the computer needs the information to keep everything running correctly, including the smog system.
if you are going to go carb you should go with a maniflod that is 50 state approved carb - to keep the smog system.
unless you are racing for the money the small loss in hp is outweighed by keeping the air cleaner.
and if there are times you need that extra hp, you can get an aftermarket chip to put in for the race which will disconnect the smog system and make it hum, and then switch it out in a few minutes.
here in cal they stop you on city streets for smog checks - truck with ramp into portable smog setup, so you might want to keep that smog hooked up if your state does that.
you can still buy race add-ons, just get the smog approved ones.
i am doing a redo of the exhaust and even though i can run a less expensive cat i bought the one for obdII just to run cleaner.

Re: wiring question
as long as the computer system is still there to tell the engine what to do.
that computer does more than work smog, so keep the wiring and get a chip that does not look for the imput. it will still need to know temp, maybe manifold pressure, oxygen sensor readings to adjust fuel, that kind of thing. but others on this board will know more than i do about that.
but basic smog requirements are federal and not state. so if you ever plan to drive anyplace where they decide to check be prepared to have it checked just for drill by some cop that does not like the look of you.
and keep everything you take off - you will need to put it on if you are caught later.
run a search from the top of the web page and look for carb conversions and there is a ton of information. i dont use carbs so im at a loss for the nuts and bolts of it.

Re: wiring question
I hear you it sucks.
Update so the ecm is gone any wires that were directly to the ecm and sensors with them are gone, now i have wires left that were to the ecm and to the drivers side connection. does anyone know what wires i need to keep or have a wire diagram for what wires are need for a carb motor?
And how does the signal go from my ign to the engine compartment? what color wire??thanks
