aftermarket temp sensor and gauge????

1998 350 with rpm intake, carb, cap in coil and no computer.
Im trying to get my aftermarket temp gauge and sensor to work. the gauge has three prongs on the back. one for a key on 12v source. one for the sensor/sending unit and one for the ground. Seems strait forward enough but when i hook it up it doesnt work. I currently have the sensor installed near the tstat housing on the aluminum intake manifold. I hooked it up exactly as the directions say. it still doesn't work what am i doing wrong???
check for 12volts with key on at back of gauge, its got 11.89 volts with the key on. check for continuity on the load wire and its good. the ground is good. HELP PLEASE!!!

also i noticed that if i remove the ground from the back of the gauge and run a wire from the ground to the base of the sensor on the intake then the sensor will work. what the ****???

So you have a ground problem somewhere.
The ground you are using for the gauge is not at the same potential as the ground for the sender unit;
hi resistance / broken wires ,bad connections on the grounds somewhere , etc

Common Sense-or

Your description of your problem is consistent with the sensor not being grounded.

You didn’t use Teflon tape or anti-seize did ya?
