What kind of toggle switch amps for radiator fan?

Hello everyone, I have a 1982 305 cross fire injection Trans Am and I have no power at my fuel pump. I am trying to figure out what my next move is. I want to check the fuel pump relay on the driverside firewall but I don't know which one it is. Any help would be apprieated.

To operate a relay only takes a few milliamps of current. (thousandths of an amp) Practically any switch you can buy would be plenty.

Best way to wire it though, is NOT like that diagram. Instead, run a wire from Ignition in the fusebox or elsewhere, to one coil terminal (85 or 86), then hook the switch from the other coil terminal to ground. That way, you can put a temp switch in parallel with the manual one, so that the first time you forget to turn it on, you don't melt your motor.

There's better schematics around than that one, including several on this site.

As others have said don't wire directly to a switch that is basically a red neck fire starter.

I would put the switch in the black wire, on the ground side of the relay coil.

Then you should also hook up a temp switch to the same terminal of the relay that the switch goes to. That way, whenever the temp reaches [whatever], the fan turns on, even if the human fails.

For that matter, if I was doing it, I wouldn't use a toggle switch at all. I'd use the automatic temperature-controlled switch only. Like the car came from the factory. Might even use the factory temp sw and factory relay.

What's wrong with the OE circuit in your car? Why not just fix it?

Not that I know of... the relay should still be good, the wire from the batt to the relay will still work, the one from the relay to the fan will still work, it should still get ignition on one side of the coil, all you have to do is ground the other side (the green/white wire if memory serves), which if the fan switch is/will be still in the head, will still work just like it always did... no sense in cobbling together something nowhere near as reliable as the factory stuff when all of that is still there and working, not that that's SO reliable, but it's almost always better than homemade...

Oooh i get it now so i would just ground a toggle in my car connect it to the green/ white stripe wire and it will turn on, but what about fan no.2 also would it be a safe way to wire it?

Not sure how that one is wired... no doubt it has its own relay, just wire the 2 coils together and let them both turn on at the same time. Or, use 2 different temp switches, like a 210° and a 230° or something, and make it a 2-step.
