Dodgy wiring at fuel pump relay and no start, need help

Hi guys, the PO of my 89 GTA 5.0 tpi wired in a 15a fuse to the fuel pump relay.
I checked the weatherpack fuse near the rad and it was blown. Replaced it, started car and checked and it wasn't blown.
the wiring connector to the fuel pump relay was in bad shape and I want to get rid of this hacked wire and fuse so I took that crap out. Replaced the connector and went to start it and no start, the fuse by the rad blew. Rinse and repeat, same thing. To get my car running again, I put that garbage in line fuse back in and it runs.
I am going to start reading up on electronics and wiring diagrams etc so i can hopefully get to the bottom of it. But I gotta be honest and admit I am pretty inexperienced in understand and testing circuits. Just need to poke around here and see if anyone has any ideas on the culprit or even where to begin to look..
Thanks

Install a new fuse next to the battery artery and disconnect the fuel pump in front of the tank.
if the fuse doesn’t pop it’s the pump that’s bad

What to you mean by install next fuse next to battery artery, what is the battery artery?

Also I disconnected that fuse from the battery positive and just have it tapped in to the orange wire on the relay and it starts, neither the hacked inline fuse or the fuse on the rad blows. Fuel pump primes no problem.

The second I take that inline fuse out of the circuit it pops the fuse by the rad, which doesn't make sense to me. At all. Maybe I am knocking something loose when I do that.

Is the fuse next to the battery missing?

My relay has these wires coming off of it (which don't appear to match what is drawn in the diagram above)
-Thick orange (this is the wire that has that hacked inline fuse tapped in)
-Orange, maybe its red. Its an orangey red lol, thinner than the other one.
-Green with white stripe
-Black with white stripe
-Tan with white stripe

Re: Dodgy wiring at fuel pump relay and no start, need help

Update:
I have resolved this issue and sorry for wasting anyone's time on this. Hopefully it helped to contribute something to the board, somewhere for someone.
The reason I apologize is I believe I must have had to have knocked a wire loose or something along those lines.

I replaced the fuse next to the battery, I disconnected the hacked 15a inline fuse that went from my battery positive lead and spliced into the thick orange wire at the fuel pump relay. I roll the key over and I can hear the fuel pump relay click and the fuel pump prime.
Tried several times with the same result. VOILA
What I am GUESSING is that the previous owner did not know there was the fuel pump fuse beside the battery that had blown (he did mention he recently replaced the fuel pump) so he hacked this inline fuse in to get 12v from the battery to energize the circuit.
Really all as I had to likely do in the first place was to disconnect his hacked wiring and replace the proper fuse without knocking something loose or having a bad connection.

Which leads me to my next question. The replacement harness i have has 2 leads coming off of it where the black striped wire goes. Any idea why?
my stock setup just has the one lead coming off. You can see in the pic below:

The pigtail can replace several applications. If not used snip it close to the connector housing.
you can update to the oval weather pak relay. I think it’s listed as a fan relay efi connection has the pigtail and I think tpiparts has it too.
